Nha fala ABDEL QUETA TAVARES exposição individual 1 – 30 de Março 2019 A Galeria Underdogs tem o orgulho de anunciar “Nha fala”, a primeira exposição individual do fotógrafo guineense Abdel Queta Tavares, em Lisboa, Portugal. A mostra dá a conhecer o olhar singular do artista através de um corpo de trabalho formado por retratos fotográficos impressos em médio e grande formato. No crioulo da Guiné Bissau, de onde Abdel Queta Tavares é oriundo, “nha fala” significa “minha voz”. Se o conjunto de retratos fotográficos aqui exposto é uma materialização da sua voz enquanto artista, é também expressão da sua luta – uma luta pela descoberta e pela apuração desta sua voz, mas, também, pelo reconhecimento. Sobre o artista: Abdel Queta Tavares, que nasceu em 1992, na Guiné- Bissau, é fotógrafo, director criativo e stylist. Aos 14 anos mudou-se com a família para Lisboa, onde permaneceu durante os próximos 10 anos. Foi aí que a sua veia criativa começou a tomar corpo, começando com a compra de uma máquina fotográfica simples, tirando auto-retratos em casa, levando depois a uma paixão acentuada pela fotografia. Queta Tavares vai buscar inspiração e motivação a tudo que o leva a contemplar a vida, que o faz sentir especial e traz felicidade: cores, sorrisos, caras, detalhes, expressões e tudo o que enriquece a sua criatividade e o impulsiona a fotografar. Em 2016 mudou-se para Londres, onde foi descoberto numa loja de Shoreditch pelo fotógrafo britânico David Cantor, que ficou fascinado com a sua roupa e o seu chapéu vermelho, e pediu para tirar o seu retrato. In the Creole of Guinea-Bissau, where Abdel Queta Tavares comes from, “nha fala” means “my voice”. If the set of photographic portraits showcased here is a materialisation of his voice as an artist, it is also an expression of his struggle – a struggle for the discovery and the refinement of this voice of his, but also for recognition. About the artist: Abdel Queta Tavares, who was born in 1992 in Guinea- Bissau, is a photographer, creative director and stylist. At the age of 14 he moved with his family to Lisbon, where he remained for the next 10 years. It was there that his creative side began to flourish, beginning with the purchase of a simple camera, taking self-portraits at home and eventually leading to a deep passion for photography. Queta Tavares is inspired and motivated by everything that leads him to the contemplation of life, that makes him feel special and that brings joy: colours, smiles, faces, details, expressions and all things that add to his creativity and inspire him to take photographs. In 2016 he moved to London, where he was discovered in a Shoreditch shop by the British photographer David Cantor, who became mesmerised by his outfit and red hat and asked to take his portrait.
