ARTIST TALK | Roi Carmeli “Artist Talks” é um ciclo de conversas organizado pela Zaratan que oferece a oportunidade de encontrar os artistas residentes e de conhecer o seu processo criativo. No dia 26 de Janero, a partir das 18 horas, Roi Carmeli (IL) introduz a sua prática artística e apresenta a sua exposição "The Advantages of Poisonous Plants" Roi Carmeli, um artista visual e músico sediado em Glasgow. Licenciou-se em Belas Artes pela Academia Bezalel de Arte e Design em Jerusalém (2010) e tirou um mestrado na Glasgow School of Art (2015). Durante a sua formação, fez um intercâmbio em São Francisco (California College of Art), bem como residências artísticas no museu do vidro Corning, NY (2012), na oficina de escultura escocesa, UK(2016) e no estúdio de arte Tenjiamyama, Japão (2018) entre outras. O seu trabalho foi exibido em Israel, EUA, Escócia, Inglaterra, Japão, República Checa e Holanda. A sua pesquisa artística visa interligar a actualidade às civilizações antigas, reconectando os humanos e voltando a unir as singularidades modernas definidas por raça, nações ou estados. A sua curiosidade diante da fragilidade da memória, da natureza do tempo, do ritmo espacial e do movimento é transmitida pelo uso de narrativas escultóricas e audiovisuais. Roi utiliza o som de uma forma peculiar, não como pano de fundo, mas sim como um material tangível em si mesmo. __________________(English Version)_____________________ ARTISTS TALKS | Roi Carmeli "Artist Talks" is a monthly opportunity to meet the artists-in-residence at Zaratan and to gain insight into the creative process. On November 17, at 6 pm, Roi CArmeli (IL) will be giving a short introduction about his artistic practice and will discuss his latest exhibition "The Advantages of Poisonous Plants".The entrance is free and the presentations will be held in english. Questions and discussion are encouraged. BIO: Roi Carmeli is a visual artist and musician based in Glasgow. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem (2010) and obtained a master degree in Fine Arts from the Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow (2015). During his education, Roi spent a year as exchange student at the California College of Art, San Francisco, as well as residencies at Corning museum for glass, NY (2012), Scottish sculpture workshop, UK (2016) and Tenjiamyama art studio, JP (2018), among other places. His work has been exhibited in Israel, USA, Scotland, England, Japan, Czech Republic, and the Netherlands. In his work, Roi links present times to early civilizations, reconnecting humans and bridging the modern day singularities defined by race, nations, or states. His curiosity at the fragility of memory, the nature of time, spatial rhythm, and movement is conveyed through the use of sculpture and audiovisual narratives. He distinctively uses sound not as background, but as a tangible material in and of itself.
