FOURTH SESSION: "Essence". We invited Mia Dudek and Sejin Cho to reflect on their practice through the philosophical notion of ‘essence’’. In fact, the interest of both artists does not focus merely on the superficiality of the material, but rather they investigate the existence of an implicit value to the subjective reality of the work of art.
Mia Dudek (1989) is a Polish artist currently on Art Residency at Tomaz Hipolito’s Studio in Marvila, Lisbon. She graduated from the London College of Communication in 2012 and completed her MA at the Royal College of Art. Mia Dudek’s work tries to build a physical poetics of holes as conduits for an engagement with the audience to address questions of boundaries and proximity. She expands the conventions of photography, by making physical installations that incorporate concrete, latex and security barriers which are in a creative tension with the photographic print.
Sejin Cho (1981, South Korea). The world is full of pain. But lives go on. I find beauty in it. I question about life and death, and all beings on the path and visualize the contemplation within my artistic practice.

QUARTA SESSÃO: "Essência". Convidamos Mia Dudek e Sejin Cho a refletir sobre os próprios trabalhos através da noção filosófica de essência. Com efeito, o interesse de ambas as artistas não se foca meramente na superficialidade do material, mas antes entendem investigar a existência de um valor implícito à realidade subjetiva da obra de arte.
Mia Dudek (b.1989) é uma artista polaca em residência artística no Studio de Tomaz Hipólito em Marvila, Lisboa. Em 2012 obteve a licenciatura no London College of Communication e sucessivamente completou o master no Royal College of Art. O trabalho de Mia Dudek tenta constituir uma poética material dos buracos com o objetivo de relacionar o público às questões ligadas ao limite e à proximidade. Dudek expande as propriedades da fotografia, realizando instalações que incluem cimento, látex e barreiras de segurança numa tensão criativa com a impressão fotográfica.
Sejin Cho (1981, Coreia do Sul). O mundo está cheio de pena. Mas as vidas continuam. Encontrei nisso a beleza. Questiono a vida e a morte, todos os seres neste caminho e visualizo a contemplação com a minha prática artística.
