As symbolism of the fight against sexual violence as a weapon of war, Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege and Iraqi Nadia Murad were distinguished this year with the Nobel Peace Prize. It is from them and from their countries that we will hear about in this sharing with Gustavo Carona. In the end, Gustavo will present his latest book, "The World Needs to Know" where he narrates with great clarity the harsh reality of the greatest catastrophes, but also the hope that resides in each one of us.

Gustavo Carona, joined nine humanitarian missions in countries like Congo and Iraq. It is only one more, to the service of all, in the various missions of Doctors Without Borders, making humanism their homeland.
For him, Denis Mukwege, gynecologist / obstetrician, is the true hero of modern times. Denis does a good part of his post-graduate training in France, but goes back to where he is most needed. That alone is already remarkable, since most use their training to escape from where no one wants to be. He founded a hospital dedicated to the victims of sexual violence in the area of the planet where this problem is greatest: the East of Congo. As if the tens of thousands of surgeries that his team has already done, actively battle against the end of sexual violence as a weapon of war, and with great justice says: "If there is a red line for chemical and nuclear weapons, such as is that the international community has not yet established a red line for sexual violence. " He was the victim of an assassination attempt, where luckily he survived lying on the ground in the shower of gunshots with which he was presented. After three months of fleeing for his safety, when he returns home he has a party of thousands of Congolese, essentially the women and families he saved from the airport to his home to celebrate the return of "Dr. Miracle"

Nadia Murad, 24 years of the Yazidi community, in 2014 saw her mother and 6 of her brothers being murdered by the Islamic State the day she was abducted. They took her to Mosul where she was used as a sex slave. Raped, beaten, humiliated over and over again, she is able to flee after 3 months of this physical and psychological torture. On the refugee route, she gains the courage to expose her story until, with Amal Clooney's patronage, she takes the criminals for the Yazidi genocide to the international court for the thousands of women who have suffered what she suffered. The various death threats never shaken her courage.

For the theme and the humanitarian catastrophes they represent, of the most deserved Nobel Prizes I remember.

Mukwege dedicates to all the victims of violence in Congo, Nadia dedicates to the memory of its mother.

"As a doctor, he has worked in many of today's most dangerous and forgotten places, and in this book he tells of his missions in the Congo, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Syria.
Always in a war scenario, he relates in the first person the contemporary story telling stories of life and death that leave us, as Portuguese, proud to represent us. It forces us to see that behind the numbers there are people and that we all have to fight against prejudices, even those we think we do not have.
An emotive writing that tweaks our conscience and makes us believe that we all have a role in global happiness.
Humanitarian reflections written with blood, sweat and tears that lead us to see clearly the harsh reality of the greatest catastrophes, but also the hope that resides in each one of us. "
