Ciclo A Política das Imagens com curadoria de João Baeta

Corpo-coisa é o resultado de uma de muitas colaborações entre o coreógrafo João Fiadeiro e a fotógrafa Patrícia Almeida, onde as obras do primeiro ganham, às mãos da segunda, uma vida que se expande para lá da cena. As imagens aqui expostas foram tiradas no âmbito do espetáculo “O que fazer daqui para trás” (Fiadeiro, 2015) que tem um dispositivo extremamente simples: 5 performers correm à volta de um teatro de forma a produzir um corpo esgotado. Uma vez atingido esse esgotamento os performers entram em cena para se (re)apresentarem à frente de um microfone, falando sobre a experiência “lá de fora”. Lá dentro, as instruções dos performers são igualmente simples: voltar a correr mal o corpo se acomode e comece a recuperar as suas propriedades de “corpo-sujeito”. Esse padrão repete-se sucessivamente até não ser possível continuar. Momento em que a peça acaba.
Num dos espetáculos, improvisamos um estúdio de fotografia “fora de campo” e pedimos aos performers que fizessem uma pequena paragem antes de continuarem a sua tarefa. Os 3 instantes selecionados, separadas por intervalos de cerca de 20 minutos, retratam a performer Márcia Lança em três fases distintas da experiência da corrida e no momento exato antes de entrar em cena. A restrição imposta pelo dispositivo fotográfico/coreográfico que os obriga a parar em frente da câmara (que replica a acção que farão segundos depois à frente do espectador), produz um tipo de corpo que Fiadeiro procura nos seus trabalhos: um corpo-acontecimento (uma “coisa”), que se encontra entre “cá e lá”, na fronteira do disforme e do descontrolo, e por isso mais disponíveis, abertos e cheios de potencial.
“O que fazer daqui para trás” estreou no Teatro Maria Matos em Lisboa a 11 de Novembro de 2015. No Porto foi apresentado a 4 de Maio de 2016 no Teatro Rivoli no quadro do Festival DDD.


JOÃO FIADEIRO pertence à geração de coreógrafos que emergiu no final da década de oitenta e que deu origem à Nova Dança Portuguesa. Grande parte da sua formação é feita entre Lisboa, Nova Iorque e Berlim, tendo sido bailarino na Companhia de Dança de Lisboa (86-88) e no Ballet Gulbenkian (89-90). Em 1990 fundou a Companhia RE.AL, responsável pela criação e difusão dos seus espectáculos, apresentados com regularidade um pouco por toda Europa, Estados Unidos, Canadá, Austrália e América do Sul. Acompanha com frequência, na qualidade de tutor, artistas emergentes e acolhe, no âmbito da programação do Atelier Real, artistas e eventos transdisciplinares. O método de Composição em Tempo Real, desenhado inicialmente para apoiar a escrita coreográfica e dramatúrgica dos seus trabalhos, afirma-se atualmente enquanto ferramenta e plataforma teórico-prática para pensar a decisão, a representação e a colaboração. Essa investigação acontece no quadro da arte e em colaboração com as mais diversas disciplinas – a economia, a antropologia ou as ciências dos sistemas complexos – e tem-no levado a orientar workshops em programas de mestrado e doutoramento em universidades portuguesas e estrangeiras. Frequenta atualmente o doutoramento em Arte Contemporânea do Colégio das Artes de Coimbra.

PATRÍCIA  ALMEIDA (1970-2017). Estudou História na Universidade Nova de Lisboa e Fotografia no Goldsmiths College (Londres). Interessando-se pela fotografia documental enquanto território de pesquisa e de criação artística, começou por realizar trabalhos que questionam a relação do indivíduo com o espaço urbano. Em 2008, produz a série Portobello, um projecto que reúne fotografias, projecções de vídeo e de slides, e explora o imaginário associado aos “lugares-marca” promovidos enquanto destinos turísticos de verão. Este projecto é publicado em 2009 e exposto na galeria ZDB em Lisboa e no Art Algarve a convite da Fundação de Serralves, em Loulé. Em 2010, no âmbito do prémio BESphoto apresenta a exposição All Beauty Must Die, que combina fotografias, vídeos, serigrafias e livros auto-publicados, onde são exploradas as relações entre a juventude, a música pop, o romantismo e a paisagem. Em 2011, fundou a editora GHOST (www.ghost.pt) com David-Alexandre Guéniot e dedicou-se a edição de livros de artistas. Alguns desses livros foram o ponto de partida para exposições individuais, vídeos ou instalações como “15 de Outubro 2011” (Bienal de Vila Franca de Xira, 2016), "Ma vie va changer"; (Festival Loops, 2016) ou “Fotografo-te fotografá-lo fotografar-me”, a sua última exposição, apresentada no Porto, em Março de 2017. O seu trabalho é regularmente apresentado em Portugal e na Europa e integra várias colecções, entre elas a PLMJ, Fundação de Serralves, Colecção Novo Banco, Centro de Artes Visuais de Coimbra e Centro Português de Fotografia.

Corpo-coisa [Body-thing] is the result of one of many collaborations between the choreographer João Fiadeiro and the photographer Patrícia Almeida, where the works of the first gains, at the hands of the second, a life that expands beyond the scene.
The images presented here were taken in the show "O que fazer daqui para trás" (Fiadeiro, 2015) that has an extremely simple act: 5 performers run around a theater in order to become an exhausted body. Once arrived at the tipping point of exhaustion, performers come on the stage to (re)present themselves in front of a microphone, talking about the experience they had “outside”. Inside, the performers' instructions are also simple: restart running the minute their bodies accommodate  themselves and retrieve their “body-subject” properties. This pattern repeats itself until it is not possible to continue the run. That’s when the performance ends.
In one of the shows, we improvised a photo studio out of the view fill and asked the performers to make a short stop before continuing their running task. The 3 selected moments presented here, separated by intervals of about 20 minutes, portray the performer Márcia Lança in three distinct phases of the running experience and just before entering the stage. The restriction imposed by the photographic / choreographic dispositive, which forces them to stop in front of the camera (replicating the action they will make seconds later in front of the spectator), produces a type of presence that Fiadeiro searches in his works: a body-event (“a body-thing”) quality, which lies between "here and there", on the border of the deformity and collapse, and therefore more available, open and full of potencial.
"O que fazer daqui para trás" premiered at the Teatro Maria Matos in Lisbon on November 11th, 2015. In Porto was presented on May 4th, 2016, at Teatro Rivoli in the framework of the DDD Festival.


Choreographer, performer, researcher and teacher, JOÃO FIADEIRO (1965) belongs to the generation of choreographers that emerged towards the end of the 1980s and gave rise to the Nova Dança Portuguesa [New Portuguese Dance]. A large part of his education and training was carried out between Lisbon, New York and Berlin. He then joined the Companhia de Dança de Lisboa [Lisbon Dance Company] (1986-88) and the Gulbenkian Ballet (1989-90). In 1990 he founded the RE.AL Company that supported the creation and diffusion of his own shows, regularly presented all over Europe, the US, Canada, Australia and South America, and also represented and coached emerging artists, as well as transdisciplinary artists in the frame of Atelier Real’s programmation. The Real Time Composition method, that was first designed to support the writing and the dramaturgical composition of his works, has in the meanwhile become a theoretical-practical tool and platform to research decision-making, representation and collaboration. This research develops in cooperation with many other disciplines, such as economy, anthropology and complex systems sciences, and has lead João Fiadeiro to coordinate workshops in Masters and PhDs in several national and international schools and universities. He is presently attending the Contemporary Arts doctoral program of the Colégio das Artes in Coimbra. 

PATRÍCIA ALMEIDA (1970-2017). She studied History at the New University of Lisbon and Photography at Goldsmiths College (London). Interested in documentary photography as a territory of research and artistic creation, she started by undertaking works that question the relationship between the individual and the urban space. In 2008, she produced the Portobello series, a project that brings together photographs, video projections and slides, and explores the imagery associated with "brand places" promoted such as summer tourist destinations. This project was published in 2009 and exhibited at the ZDB gallery in Lisbon and Art Algarve at the invitation of the Serralves Foundation, in Loulé. In 2010, under the BESphoto prize, the exhibition All Beauty Must Die, which combines photographs, videos, serigraphs and self-published books, explores the relationships between youth, pop music, romanticism and landscape. In 2011, she founded the publishing house GHOST (www.ghost.pt) with David-Alexandre Guéniot dedicated to the edition of books of artists. Some of these books were the starting point for individual exhibitions, videos or installations such as "15 de Outubro 2011" (Vila Franca de Xira Biennial, 2016), "Ma vie va changer" (Festival Loops, 2016) or "Fotografo-te fotografá-lo fotografar-me", her last exhibition, presented in Oporto, in March 2017.
Her work is regularly presented in Portugal and Europe and is part of several collections, among them PLMJ, Serralves Foundation, New Bank Collection, Center of Visual Arts of Coimbra and Portuguese Center of Photography.
