Khidja Em Mandrilland, o álbum da banda icónica de NYC Mandrill, há uma faixa chamada Khidja. É uma curveball, uma espécie de aventura, onde os estilos contrastam e se misturam: do latin ao prog, do funk ao jazz. Esta música foi a inspiração dos Khidja, a dupla alemã, a começar a fazer e tocar música no 10º ano. A sua marca fundou-se assim num sentido de metamorfose - saltar entre estilos e eras sai-lhes naturalmente, e o seu som evolui continuamente e reinventa-se por causa dessa saudável incapacidade de ficarem parados, sonicamente falando. Mas há uma linguagem sonora que unifica todos os seus esforços, tanto como DJs quanto como produtores - o seu interesse especial pela música da Roménia e regiões vizinhas - Lautareasca, a cena de Bucareste e algum disco turco. Habilmente misturam tudo isso com techno industrial, new wave e batidas de dança verdadeiramente percussivas, verdadeiramente modernas - criando uma receita única para euforia suada e apaixonada na pista de dança. Peach Peach é uma bola de energia - é a sua biografia no site Resident Advisor que o diz. O recente Boiler Room set que fez em Manchester é uma explosão de alegria e celebração queer que homenageia vários momentos do contínuo underground da música de dança; italo, breaks, electro, 80s disco e techno entrecruzados sem hesitação - enquanto Serena (nome de nascença) pulula rodeada de uma crowd em completo êxtase. Faz um show regular na rádio online londrina de referência NTS e estreou-se recentemente na produção através da editora Intergraded, do já icónico Midland. Gravou mixes contagiantes e unânimes para Discwoman, Crack Magazine ou Lobster Theremin - ninguém ignora esta artista canadiana sediada em Londres que se atira à mesa de mistura com uma espontaneidade e espírito de festa que urge devolver à scene actual. VIEGAS O flow e a elegância são características do DJ que historicamente foram sempre celebradas, tanto pela pista de dança como pelos líderes de opinião como a (boa) imprensa musical e outros artistas. Viegas tem ambos - mas para nós, a qualidade (nem sempre tão celebrada) que demarca Viegas enquanto DJ é a sua capacidade de navegar entre várias coordenadas aparentemente díspares com uma precisão técnica e emocional com poucos paralelos - nutre uma relação tão próxima com a crueza do dancehall mais obscuro e futurista, a vivacidade ghettohouse como com as paisagens oníricas do ambient, nunca deixando de lado o grande contínuo rave, o EBM ou o industrial dos 90s. O ano de 2017 foi um momento-charneira para Viegas: junta-se à Rádio Quântica com o programa Mercúrio e fez parte do núcleo fundador a mina, a noite techno queer, feminista e emancipatória onde é residente. Paralelamente construiu um importante portfólio ao documentar, através da lente certeira da sua máquina fotográfica, as movimentações queer rave em Portugal. Em 2018 tem cimentado o seu entusiasmo e conhecimento com experiência em algumas da cabines mais emblemáticas do nosso underground, da ZDB aos Maus Hábitos ao Damas e até ao Lux, onde é agora repetente. Tsuri Combinar profundidade e alegria, e fazê-lo com maturidade mas também gosto pela aventura, é uma linha difícil de surfar - mas quando se consegue equilíbrio suficiente para lá estar, a pista de dança sincroniza-se num uníssono de apreciação em movimento. Tsuri é um desses DJs - e não sabemos bem porquê: será porque desenvolveu uma sensibilidade especialmente afinada por ser também um produtor prolífico e inspirado? Porque fez a escola mais formativa - a do circuito de bares pequenos e completamente entregues à reverência pela música boa? Porque sempre tocou e colaborou rodeado de amigos, criando naturalmente um mindset autêntico no que toca à música? Não sabemos, nem precisamos de saber. Até achamos que é só o feeling. E o Tsuri tem-no. Enquanto beatmaker, é informado pela frescura desenvolta do jungle, pelo electro mais imaginativo e por house multi-facetada. It's a curveball, an adventure of sorts, where genres clash and blend: from latin to prog, funk to jazz. This song is what inspired Khidja, the german duo, to start making and playing music back in 10th grade. Their trademark became a sense of metamorphosis - hopping genres and eras is now second nature to them, and granted, their sound continuously evolves and re-invents itself because of this healthy inability to stand still, sonically speaking. But there is one sonic language that unifies all of their efforts, both as DJs and as producers - and it's their especially invested interest in music from in and around their home country of Romania - Lautareasca, the Bucharest scene and some twisted Turkish disco. They then expertly blend it with industrial and new-wave leaning techno and heavily percussive, truly modern dance beats - creating a unique recipe for sweaty, passionate dancefloor euphoria. They'll visit Santa Apolónia's mothership in the DJ set format, taking us on an unmissable, colourful ride, propelled by organic music and avant-garde electronics. Add that to the mixes for Discwoman, Crack Magazine and Lobster Theremin and one thing's clear; there's no ignoring this London-based canadian known for a spontaneity and party spirit behind the decks that needs to be restored to the current scene. VIEGAS Flow and elegance are features of the DJ craft that have always been celebrated historically, both by the dancefloor and by opinion leaders such as (good) music press and other artists. Viegas has both - but for us, the quality (not always so celebrated) that demarcates Viegas as a DJ is his ability to navigate between several seemingly disparate coordinates with a technical and emotional precision with few parallels - he nurtures an equally close relationship with the crudity of the most obscure and futuristic dancehall, ghettohouse vivacity as with the dreamlike landscapes of ambient, never leaving aside the great continuous of rave as well as EBM or industrial of the 90s. The year of 2017 was a turning point for Viegas: he joined Rádio Quântica with the Mercúrio show and was part of the founding crew of mina, the queer, feminist techno party where he is a resident. At the same time, he built an important portfolio by documenting the queer rave movements in Portugal through the right lens of his camera. In 2018 he has cemented his enthusiasm and knowledge with experience in some of the most emblematic booths of our underground, from ZDB to Maus Hábitos to Damas and to Lux, where he is finally back. Tsuri Combining depth and joy, and doing it maturely yet with a taste for adventure is a difficult line to navigate - but when you achieve enough balance to be there, the dancefloor synchronizes in a unison of in-motion appreciation. Tsuri is one of those DJs - and we're not sure why: did he develop a sensitivity that's especially sharp because he's also a prolific and inspired producer? Because we went through the formative school that is the small circuit of bars that are completely reveret for good music? Because he's always played and worked collaboratively, surrounded by friends, naturally creating an authentic mindset when it comes to music? We do not know, nor do we need to know. We think it's probably just about the feeling. And Tsuri has it. As a beatmaker, he is informed by the crisp freshness of jungle, by some of the most imaginative electro and multi-faceted house. This combination, completely heartfelt, can also be recognized in his DJ sets, which inebriate dancefloors throughout the country for their restless but determined, uncompromising but deliberate quality.
