DEADLY DRAGON SOUND (NYC)
https://deadlydragonsound.com/

For twenty five years Deadly Dragon Sound System has been keeping the roots of reggae music alive through their DJ events, their retail space and their on-going devotion as collectors of Jamaican vinyl from the foundation of Ska all the way up to the newest riddims bubbling up from yard. With a collection spanning more than 150,000 pieces of vinyl and acetate (7", 10", 12", Dubplate and LP) Deadly Dragon Soundsystem has the vaults to entertain with the finest Jamaican music ever made and to honor the worldwide reggae community with their integrity and knowledge of Jamaican music.

Deadly Dragon Sound System was formed in Chicago by Scratch Famous aka Jeremy Freeman in 1995. Initially, Deadly Dragon was started as a way to share an appreciation of Jamaican music with a local audience who, at that time, had no outlets to hear DJ music of any kind. Within a few months, Deadly Dragon's Sunday night party at Empty Bottle had become a legend. Within Chicago's often segregated environment, Deadly Dragon managed to unite all the different tribes under the banner of hardcore reggae music. Twenty plus years later people still speak of the night with reverence.

In 1998 Deadly Dragon Sound expanded into New York City and quickly became a mainstay in the city's hot bed of sound systems and selectors. Over the past 17 years Deadly Dragon Sound held down weekly residencies at some of New York’s finest clubs including their long running Thursday night DOWNTOWN TOP RANKING party at The Delancey – which was the top foundation reggae night in New York City for 8 years running. Deadly Dragon’s success has been due to their devotion to spinning all vinyl sets and their top quality lineup of weekly special guests (which have included some of the finest selectors from all around the globe). In addition, Deadly Dragon has brought together a series of live events with such artists and sound systems as Johnny Osbourne, Screechy Dan, Shinehead, Tony Tuff, Yami Bolo, Mighty Crown, Down Beat, Ranking Joe, Cornell Campbell, Wayne Smith, Sleepy Wonder, Stone Love, Chuck Turner, Nardo Ranks, Carlton Livingstone, Shabba Ranks, Major Mackarel and more.

In 2005, Jeremy Freeman aka Scratch Famous and Jason DeBeck aka Selector JD opened the retail side of Deadly Dragon, expanding it into, not just a sound-system, but one of the finest resources for reggae fanatics around. The website offers a comprehensive selection of new and vintage vinyl from Mento 78s to the newest tunes from Jamaica. Deadly Dragon has also created a limited edition reissue imprint label that has released over 35 different vinyl singles to great critical acclaim. You can visit the shop’s website at www.deadlydragonsound.com.

Deadly Dragon Sound are true lovers of Jamaican music and that love and respect is reflected in their expansion from a simple sound system to the multi-faceted cultural expression that they have become.
