Foi, claro, na São Francisco que o viu crescer que aperfeiçoou a sua sensibilidade ímpar para misturar música de coordenadas tão diferentes como a Alemanha dos 80s ou a Detroit actual. Há mais de duas décadas que faz a sua coisa, tantos nas festas que criou - Sunset Sound System e No Way Back - como em horas de vôo enquanto warm-up DJ e em residências humildes a dias menos populares como o domingo. Mas é isto, em larga medida, que faz um DJ - o espaço para respirar, encontrar uma voz, e ganhar a confiança de fazê-la ouvir-se, inteira. Nos dias que correm é citado por muitos dos melhores DJs do mundo como um favorito, e tem dado provas disso em plataformas tão sólidas como o festival holandês Dekmantel ou o já lendário programa de rádio Nova Iorquino Beats In Space. House de DNA autêntico, tecido em Chicago, e filtrada pelas saudáveis influências da cena borbulhante de Montréal, Canadá. Foi nesta cidade que Patrick Holland mergulhou de cabeça na música de dança, através das mais interessantes festas after-hours, onde se tocava house, disco, boogie, soul ou jazz e se celebrava em ambiente relaxado e não julgamentoso. Este som primaveril que tem cultivado enquanto DJ e enquanto produtor (já lançou na Clone e na Magicwire de Lone) encontra também espaço para se exprimir na plataforma editorial que co fundou ao lado de Seb Cowan da Arbutus Records, a SOBO, Sounds Of Beaubien Ouest, onde lança a sua música, colaborações e produções de amigos. Toda esta malha íntima de influência - trabalhar com amigos, prestar atenção a editoras locais como a Mood Hut ou a Pacific Rhythm (e claro, gerir a sua própria) firmaram um artista que hipnotiza a sua crowd misturando música que carrega calor e sabedoria vintage com novas produções ou mesmo clássicos. There's a balance and delicate quality in everything he offers us, both in his sets and in the work that he develops for Life and Death - the label Job runs with DJ Tennis and Tale of Us. Adding to an already perfect trajectory, Job Jobse cut his teeth working for the giant Innervisions and was also part of the team of residents and programmers at the defunct and just as legendary Trouw club. The latter taught him "everything he knows", he says, having started by organising nights at the clubs toilets - that's right. Now he has a global underground circuit with its doors open and a busy DJ schedule, and his story of ascension seems to have just begun. SOLAR It's hard to talk about the (vital) San Francisco dance scene without mentioning Solar's name, a true veteran who helped shape the defying sound and DIY ethics that dominate the city's landscape. It was in the San Francisco that saw him grow that he perfected his unique sensibility to blend music from such different coordinates as 80s Germany or today's Detroit. He's been doing his thing for over two decades, both in the parties that he's created - Sunset Sound System and No Way Back - as well as through booth hours as a warm-up DJ or in humble residencies in less popular days like sundays. But it's precisely this that makes a DJ - the space to breathe, to find a voice and to build the confidence to make it be wholly heard. Today he's cited as a favourite by many of the world's best DJs, and has proved his worth in platforms as solid as Dutch festival Dekmantel or the now-legendary New York show Beats In Space. In his sets, he paints his own californian sunset with techno, electro, industrial, EBM and house tones, bringing freshness and discovery to the table while not sounding gratuitously alien, but rather adventurous and familiar in equal measures. PROJECT PABLO Sunny melodies, fat basslines, disco vibrations - this is Project Pablo's brand of house music. It carries authentic Chicago inspired DNA, filtered by the healthy influence of the bubbling Montréal scene. It was in this city that Patrick Holland dove deep in dance music through some of the most interesting after-hours parties, where house, disco, boogie, soul or jazz would be played, and the atmosphere was relaxed and non judgemental. This colourful sound that he's been nurtuting as a DJ and as a producer (he's released on Clone and Lone's Magicwire) also finds a space to express itself in the label he co-founded with Seb Cowan of Arbutus Records - SOBO, Sounds Of Beaubien Ouest, where he released his music, collaborations and friends' productions. All this intimate network of influences - working with friends, paying attention to local labels like Mood Hut or Pacific Rhythm (and, of course, managing his own label) have created an artist that hypnotises his crowd by blending music that carries vintage heat and knowledge with new productions or even classics.
