Editoras como a Schematic de Miami, a Interdimensional Transmissions de Detroit e a Viewlexx de The Hague moldaram definitivamente o seu gosto e o seu som, mas a sua primeira influência foi alguém muito mais próximo de Danny - a sua mãe. Foi ela que escolheu o seu nome artístico, e foi também ela que lhe ofereceu o equipamento de DJ, posto imediatamente a uso aos 14 anos - e de DJ sets de casamentos para a intensidade de raves pareceu um instante. Sempre irrequieto, paralelamente começou a produzir numa versão crackada do Fruity Loops e hoje já lançou música na Phantasy, Kompakt ou Cómeme - já estamos todos a perceber que improvisar e quebrar regras não são problemas para um Danny Daze, desde que tudo aconteça em nome da autenticidade. Esta abordagem punk e emocional à música transparece também na sua editora, Omnidisc: "Procuramos faixas que sejam cruas e damos as boas-vindas a imperfeições. Adoro o charme de um disco menos polido.", dizia numa entrevista recente. O seu DJing resume perfeitamente essa escola livre a que Danny Daze pertence: corta, cola e mistura sem medo discos de italo disco com techno, electro ou até Paula Abdul (como já fez no Berghain), num gesto artístico deliberado que cria momentos de surpresa e expansão emocional na pista de dança. E acaba por ser verdade: A. E. Mancini, aka Cleveland, é de Luxemburgo mas tem raízes italianas e chama hoje em dia casa a Bruxelas. Mas as suas viagens não são só literais. Este arquitecto sónico foi encontrando matéria para sonhar em coisas simples como colaborar com amigos próximos na sua cidade-natal, ou na imersão no underground de música electrónica na capital Belga, para onde se mudou para estudar. Em 2014 a sua compulsão artística materializou-se num primeiro disco na White de Oskar Offermann, e desde então a sua visão onírica, profunda e moderna da house encontrou casa em editoras tão importantes como a Hivern Discs de John Talabot e na ESP Institute de Lovefingers. Mas não se esgota aqui a energia de Cleveland, que também faz rádio na emblemática estação online Red Light Radio e organiza as suas próprias festas em Bruxelas e Luxemburgo. Desta vez, a festa é aqui: celebra-se a frescura estimulante de um artista que tem muito de novidade e outro tanto de essencial, no sempre refrescante formato live. Bradley é também uma das figuras centrais na renovação musical do sul de Londres - mais concretamente na zona de Peckham. A sua festa mensal Rhythm Section, começada em 2009, rapidamente se tornou numa das melhores de Londres e a receita é simples: um despretensioso bar de bilhar bem no meio da Rye Lane de nome Canavan's Peckham Pool Club; pouca luz; muito som; espírito de comunidade e discos tocados com paixão pelos melhores selectors da cidade. Musicalmente eclécticas e com coordenadas soul, funk, disco, broken beat e house, estas festas viriam mais tarde, em 2014, a dar origem à editora Rhythm Section International, que rapidamente conquistou o mundo com lançamentos chave de artistas sobretudo locais como Al Dobson Jr, Henry Wu, Chaos In The CBD ou FYI Chris. Chegada a Londres e sem conhecer muita gente, fez amigos na pista de dança do entretanto extinto Plastic People, onde ia religiosamente todas as semanas. Pouco depois junta-se a Sam "Floating Points" para ajudar com a sua nova editora Melodies International - um selo que dedicado a relançar pérolas difíceis de encontrar que tocava nas suas noites You're A Melody. A sua busca pela música que a fascina, documentada em slots de rádio na NTS ou Worldwide FM, de Gilles Peterson, rapidamente a fizeram destacar-se como uma digger notável. Daí surgiu a atenção de websites como a Resident Advisor e um calendário forte de datas em festivais e clubes como o Dimensions, Sunfall, XOYO ou Phonox. Agora regressa ao Lux, dois anos e mil discos depois da sua estreia connosco em 2016, e consigo aos comandos seremos verdadeiramente melodia outra vez. Telma Telma Correia é um nomes mais promissores da nova vaga de DJs lisboetas e tem partilhado o seu voraz apetite por discos em casas e line ups quentes da cidade. O seu gosto é ecléctico mas o fio condutor é inegável por entre discos de electro de Detroit, pérolas da família Sex Tags, obscuridades funk e disco mutantes, beats bastardos - música aventureira mas com centro e groove. Tem a sua própria noite, de nome R U S T, onde mensalmente mostra à cidade alguma da música mais fixe que há por aí, seja através dos discos que cruza ou pelos convidados que a acompanham - nos pratos ou com os seus live acts. Faz também parte do colectivo Intera; uma iniciativa que semi-regularmente ocupa clubes e outros espaços espaços da cidade para promover não apenas experiências de clubbing mas também debates que podem ir de troca de dicas de produção até aos desafios de uma indústria com pouca visibilidade feminina. Labels like Miami's Schematic, Detroit's Interdimensional Transmissions and Viewlexx from The Hague shaped his taste and sound, but his first influence was someone much closer to Danny - his mother. It was her who chose his stage name, and it was also her who treated him to the DJ equipment, which he immediately put to use at age 14 - and from DJ sets at weddings to the intensity of raves seemed like a heartbeat. Always restless, he started producing in a crackled version of Fruity Loops and has now released music on Phantasy, Kompakt and Cómeme - by now we've all realized that improvising and breaking rules are not a problem for Danny Daze, as long as everything happens on behalf of authenticity. This punk and emotional approach to music is also apparent in his label Omnidisc: "We look for tracks that are raw and welcome imperfections. I love the charm of an unpolished record," he said in a recent interview. His DJing perfectly sums up the free, loose school that Danny Daze belongs to: he fearlessly cuts, pastes and mixes italo disco with techno, electro and even Paula Abdul (as he's already done at Berghain), in a deliberate artistic gesture that creates moments of surprise and emotional expansion on the dance floor. Cleveland live One must have seen and felt lots in order paint landscapes that, although abstract, suggest ideas as human as those that Cleveland whispers to us through his beats. And that turns out to be true: A. E. Mancini, aka Cleveland, is from Luxembourg but has Italian roots and calls Brussels home nowadays. But his travels are not just literal. This sonic architect has been tapping into the stuff of dreams in simple things like collaborating with close friends in his native city, or immersing himself in the electronic music underground in the Belgian capital, where he moved to for his studies. In 2014 his artistic compulsion materialized into a first album on Oskar Offermann's White, and since then his dreamlike, deep, modern vision of house has found a home in labels as relevant as John Talabot's Hivern Discs and Lovefingers' ESP Institute. But Cleveland's energy, who does a show at the iconic online station Red Light Radio, does not run out quickly - he also runs its own parties, both in Brussels and in Luxembourg. This time, the party is here with us: it celebrates the exciting freshness of an artist who is equal measures new and essential, in the ever-refreshing live format. Bradley Zero Bradley will surely be a familiar face to many; he's one of the original founders of the global streaming platform Boiler Room and perhaps its most recognisable face, after introducing endless of the most exciting DJs and live acts through this London-bred platform. Bradley's also at the centre of the new wave of interest in the music scene of South London - specifically Peckham. His party Rhythm Section that was started in 2009 quickly became one of the best club nights in London and the recipe is simple: an unpretentious venue right at the heart of Rye Lane called Canavan's Peckham Pool Club; dim lights; fat sound; community spirit and great records played with passion by some of the best selectors in the city. The music in these nights is decidedly eclectic, joining the dots between soul, funk, disco, broken beat and house. Later on, in 2014, they gave birth to the Rhythm Section International label, which has since then got the attention of global music fans with key releases by mostly local artists such as Al Dobson Jr, Henry Wu, Chaos In The CBD or FYI Chris. Mafalda It was four years ago when Mafalda left Porto and her job as a fashion designer to move to London; the eureka moment came while at Corsica Studios, in Elephant & Castle, listening to Floating Points and Sadar Bahar playing records. Arriving at London without knowing many people, she made new friends by heading down to Plastic People every weekend, religiously, to dance. Soon after she joins Sam "Floating Points" to help out with his new label Melodies International, dedicated to reissue rare and hard to find records that were being played at Sam's own monthly party You're A Melody. From then on, her own search for the records that fascinated her, documented through radio slots on NTS and Gilles Peterson's own Worldwide FM, quickly made her stood out as an exceptional digger. Quickly she appeared on the media's radar, doing mixes and interviews for websites such as Resident Advisor, and featuring on the line ups of big festivals and clubs like Dimensions, Sunfall, XOYO or Phonox. Now she returns to Lux, two years and a thousand records after her debut with us in 2016 - and with Mafalda at the decks, we'll truly be melody again. Telma Telma Correia is one of the most promissing names in the new wave of Lisbon DJs and she's been sharing her voracious appetite for records around some of the cities hottest line ups and venues. Her taste in music is eclectic but there's an undeniable threading line that goes from Detroit electro to Sex Tags gems, funk and disco obscurities, bastard beats - adventurous music that still retains a sense of groove. Telma runs her own night named R U S T where she shocases some of the dopest music around, wether through her DJ sets or by featuring other local DJs and live-acts. She's also a part of the collective Intera; an initiative that semi-regularly take over clubs and other spaces around town to not only offer great clubbing experiences but also debates that can go from exchanging production tips to discussing the challenges of operating within an industry with lack of female visibility.
