Curadoria de/Curated by Pedro Huet Inauguração/ Opening, sexta-feira/Friday 6 Abril/April 2018, 22:00 Até/Until 28 Abril 2018 Quinta a sábado/Thursday to Saturday, 15:00 - 19:00 Conversa com o artista/ Talk with the artist: sábado/Saturday 7 Abril/April 2018, 18:00 Uma vez o Rik contou-me o quanto ele sempre gostou de desenhar, enfatizou-o repetindo "mesmo" duas vezes: "Oh, eu sempre gostei mesmo, mesmo de desenhar (...) Oh, eu sempre gostei mesmo, mesmo de desenhar". Esta exposição começa precisamente com a ideia de desenhos que serviram como uma fuga para um momento de que o artista não queria fazer parte. As crianças crescem e têm de trabalhar e em vez de uma sala de aula têm um emprego, contas para pagar e aí por diante. O acto de desenhar foi aqui entendido como um acto de resistência. Resistência ao que o professor ia ensinando e, agora, aos momentos mortos de um guarda de museu, um funcionário do bengaleiro, um assistente de sala de espetáculos. Os desenhos, e principalmente o acto de desenhar, tornaram-se um instrumento de desvio a uma postura imposta, um pequeno gesto de rebeldia e uma forma de não vender apenas o tempo a um empregador/serviço, mas de o fazer vendendo um tempo proveitoso. Aqui, revisitar a adolescência, não é fazê-lo apenas no modo de copiar os gestos de outrora, mas de aplicar estratégias de fugas de outros tempos a estes novos que se vivem. Diria que a exposição começa aqui, para depois viajar por entre a ironia e a frustração para com as expectativas criadas por um mundo consumista, capitalizado. // Rik once told me how much he always liked to draw, he emphasised it by saying ‘really’ twice: “Oh, I’ve always really, really liked drawing (…) Oh, I’ve always really, really liked drawing”. This show starts precisely with the idea of drawings that served as an escape to a moment the artist didn’t want to be a part of. Babies grow and they have to work and instead of a classroom they have a job to go, bills to pay and so on. The act of drawing was here understood as an act of resistance. Resisting to what the teacher was teaching and now repeating it by resisting to the dead moments of a museum guard, a cloakroom guy or a spectacle room assistant. The drawings and mostly the act of drawing, became an instrument to not follow an imposed posture, a small gesture of rebellion and a form of not only selling his time to an entity but to sell a profitable time for himself as well. Revisiting adolescence here is not doing it only by copying the gestures of before, but also applying the escapes strategies of other times to these new ones. I would say that the show starts here and then it travels between irony and frustration through the expectations created by a consumerist, capitalised world. // Rik Peeters (Mechelen, 1993). Pedro Huet (Porto, 1993) vive e trabalha entre o Porto e Bruxelas. Licenciado em Artes Plásticas – Multimédia pela Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto. Estudou Vídeo e Vídeo-instalação na Academia de Belas-Artes de Viena. Concluiu o mestrado em Artes Plásticas pela LUCA - School of Arts em Bruxelas. Co-fundador do Nartece, espaço independente dedicado às artes visuais no Porto, onde colaborou até Outubro de 2016. Começou a expor em 2012, destacando-se a mostra “Walled” no Sismógrafo (Porto, 2016), “were our eyes not like the sun, they could never see it” na Mupi Gallery – Maus Hábitos (Porto, 2016) ou as exposições colectivas “Reminders” no Netwerk Aalst (Aalst, 2017) e “No meio de qualquer coisa”, na Galeria Graça Brandão (Lisboa, 2016).
