"Chanson clandestine" (Portugal, 2017, English without subtitles), movie by Maël Mubalegh (France), in presence of the director and actors. This is the story of a nice, fruitful misunderstanding. As any cinephile knows, in the hitchcockian way of thinking, two together are always going somewhere, no matter how long and especially how crooked the way is. Well, here there are also two figures going somewhere together, yet it is never sure, while they evolve in each other’s company, that they are going the same way. As a matter of fact, it is even quite the contrary, as you will quick find out : this is pretty much the story of a talking at cross purposes as well as it is the story of an erratic walk at cross purposes, leading nowhere but in the realm of the chaotic little music of our everyday lives. We want to show our audience that it is possible to make films out of a certain poverty of elements, that cinema lurks behind every corner of our real world. This is this cinema « of the real » we actually want to reach, without necessarily making documentary movies. To film in a narrow geographical area, with few actors, enables us to try things and also to think about the « completed » film in the same time as we are doing it, yet always by leaving room for surprises. And as far as we are concerned : a cinema which remains bound to a desire for fiction(s), the desire of telling a story – a story which reciprocally tells us something about the place and the time within which we have been telling it.
