 DJ Jus-Ed

Aqui bastaria escrever Underground Quality.

No Lux.

 DVS1

While anticipating an event which we idealize as capable of changing lives, it make sense to re-tell the story of a troubled teenager from the american midwest who once had his own life changed by music. Sometime in the nineties, in an abandoned and probably illegally occupied warehouse in his hometown of Minneapolis, Zak Khutoretsky found himself in front of a wall made of speakers, feeling the air itself being pushed by the power of the sound emanating from them. The kind and the bassline, the fundamentals of techno, became the fundamentals of his own way of life, and thus DVS1 came to be. Somewhere in the vicinity of 20 years later, Zak is still chasing, night after night, the chance of living that memory again. In recent times, he took his “The Wall Of Sound” concept around the world, an allusion to that night which changed everything, in which a sound-system especially designed for the occasion becomes the focus of the event, with the DJ becoming a worker at it´s service. And because techno is a permanent occupation, he also brought his essence to our houses and cars with the stunning Fabric 96 mix-CD. All being said, with his tireless work ethic and unwavering belief, DVS1 has fed our own memories and inspired new futures. Because that´s how lives are changed.

 VRIL

An unproven geology theory, which comes in quite handy for this introduction, mentions that, subjected to enough heat, a lump of coal can give birth to a diamond in the rough. The elements that german producer Vril uses to create his sound are also simple, unpolished and deceptively basic. You lay down a bed of thundering kicks, slather merciless basslines over the beats and then add blue metallic chords drenched in reverb. You then submit this combination to intense high temperatures, and the precious stones that make up Vril´s live-act. And which are also delivered to us as if coming on a freight train, such is the power and propulsion with which his tracks hit us, like the ones he´s been putting out on the always reliable Delsin, or cult label Giegling, for a while now. Experienced ears have reported that the power of his live-act has the capability of making them feel as if they just heard techno for the first time. Well, using the reset button and putting the counter back to zeroes also seems like an excellent way of setting someone´s life on a new path. We count on Vril to push that button.

 DJ Jus-Ed

The words Underground Quality should be enough. It is the name of the label Jus-Ed founded in 2004, not long after coming out of a sort of early 15-year retirement. He runs the label from Connecticut, USA, sending out some of the best deep house vibes we hear on this planet. His funk and jazz background (at 6, he "played" with his dad) comes through in the house productions he signs as a solo artist or in collaboration, most notoriously with his wife Jenifa Mayanja - Ed & Jen recorded an album and several EPs. ED has been in the scene long enough to embody History and his sets naturally go back and forth between classic tips and the New School. Firm as well in his role as active promoter of the music via podcasts recorded in relax mode at home as if playing records to a bunch of friends while the cat jumps on his lap. Calm and collected.

 Jenifa Mayanja DJ/Producer

We're talking about experience here. Jenifa recorded over 20 singles for several labels, including Underground Quality (which she co-runs with husband Jus-Ed). She's also the head of Bumako Recordings, focused mainly on her own productions, and Sound Warriors, an ongoing showcase of feminine talent. Jenifa's activism is also displayed on the ground, as things happen: her DJ sets are fluid, life-affirming affairs, and we can borrow a description from Bumako's website: "electronic music that fuses global, house, jazz sounds into an organic dancefloor mixture". We can hear the whole already perfectly tight in 1999, with Jenifa's vocals and arrangements adding charisma to Descendants' "Light Shines Through". Spiritual mission is well defined, actions where the words are, inspiration ready to be received by us. At Lux.
