Quando David Mancuso começou o Loft em 1970, Danny Krivit tinha 13 anos e ainda não sabia que esse clube iria ser o centro da sua vida por uns anos. Não como DJ mas como base e escola onde se tornou próximo, por exemplo, de Larry Levan e François Kevorkian. Ou começamos com a História do Hip Hop? Danny tocou na noite inaugural do Roxy, um dos primeiros clubes em Nova Iorque a levar a sério a cultura hip hop, e foi residente por 4 anos. Nesse contexto, tinha enorme vantagem sobre outros DJs brancos: sabia fazer scratch. Por fim, House, esse género fundamentalmente descendente de Disco. Um dos pontos identificadores de Danny Krivit é o seu trabalho de re-edits para pista de dança, música já existente que ele afina em estúdio para maior impacto nos clubes. Muito activo nessa frente desde o início da década de 80, Danny esteve lá também nesse percurso formativo da cena House. Tornou as batidas mais sincopadas, estendeu grooves que precisavam de mais tempo, transformou por exemplo "Trans Europe Express" dos Kraftwerk num mantra hipnótico de percussão metálica. Em 1996, com Joe Claussell e François Kevorkian, abriu a hoje lendária noite Body & Soul. A lenda afirma que tocou todos os Domingos durante 6 anos, quando, já neste século, o clube anfitrião fechou. Body & Soul é talvez o ponto do seu percurso onde, num mesmo fluxo, se encontra finalmente toda a música a que foi exposto desde que, nos 60s, o seu pai era manager de Chet Baker e os contactos lhe permitiam receber discos das mãos de James Brown. Danny Krivit é importante para a música há mais anos do que aqueles que muitos de nós viveram na Terra. When David Mancuso started The Loft in 1970, Danny Krivit was 13 and not yet aware of his life-changing experience at the club. Not as a DJ but as the solid ground and school where he became close with Larry Levan and François Kevorkian, to name just two fundamental names. Or shall we start with the History of Hip Hop? Danny played the opening night at the Roxy, one of the first clubs in New York to take hip hop culture seriously, and he became a resident there for the next 4 years. Within that context, he had a great advantage over other white DJs: he could scratch. Finally, on to House, a genre fundamentally indebted to Disco. One of the key points to map Danny Krivit's career is his re-edit work straight for the danceflloor. Music already in existence but which he expertly transforms in the studio so it has more impact on the floor. Being very active on that front throughout the 80s, Danny was also there in those formative years of House. He made the beats more syncopated, extended some grooves that needed more time, he turned Kraftwerk's "Trans Europe Express" into a hypnotic percussive mantra. In 1996, with Joe Claussell and François K, he opened the now legendary Body & Soul club night. He played every Sunday for 6 years, until the venue closed. Body & Soul is the meeting point for all the music Danny's been exposed to since his father managed Chet Baker in the 60s and he was handed records straight from James Brown. Danny Krivit is important to the music world for more years than many of us have lived on this Earth.
