Najaaraq Vestbirk nasceu na Gronelândia mas cresceu na Dinamarca, afastada do circuito de dança mais normativo. Foi seleccionada como participante na procurada série de workshops anual da RBMA em 2014 e subiu com segurança para um lugar de maior notoriedade desde então. 2016 foi um ano-chave nesse processo, altura em que Courtesy se estabeleceu definitivamente como artista a solo e lançou a editora Ectotherm com a sua então colega da Aiperon crew, Mama Snake. Os seus celebrados mixes para a Crack Magazine e para a FACT nesse mesmo ano atestam a sua paixão por misturar estilos que activamente expandem os horizontes da música de dança: texturas cruas encontram-se com produções mais polidas, electro de imaginário sci-fi e breaks de inspiração rave. Neste último ano, Courtesy expandiu a sua label Ectotherm par um projecto em duas partes, introduzindo um contraponto mais curve-ball, Endotherm; e a editora faz também um programa mensal na instituição de rádio independente londrina, NTS Radio. Dan é, na verdade, um indie-kid e cresceu a ouvir sobretudo guitarras. No entanto, enquanto produtor e DJ, sempre se entregou inteiramente ao processo criativo e nunca quiz travar a sua metamorfose; refinou influências roqueiras não-convencionais de bandas como My Bloody Valentine ou Sonic Youth e, através da eterna plasticidade da música de dança, seguiu as mesmas pisadas integrativas de DJs como Erol Alkan ou Andrew Weatherall (ambos seus fãs confessos e conhecidos mentores). Em editoras de dança com igual sensibilidade rock como a Optimo Music, a Relish ou a Throne of Blood, Daniel foi atingindo uma cada vez maior notoriedade. A sua música, já então, parecia querer aventurar-se em terreno cada vez mais abstracto e electrónico - sempre assombrada pelos espectros musicais escuros de Chris & Cosey ou Coil, claro. Quando Erol Alkan o acolhe na sua editora Phantasy Sound, em 2012, dá-se uma nova fase de refinamento techno que leva a sua música para o centro da acção global; primeiro com uma série de singles e depois com o seu album de estreia "Drone Logic" - reconhecido internacionalmente como um dos melhores albums de 2013. Este novo pulsar analógico techno que Dan Avery encontra, aliado a uma capacidade brilhante de gerir a energia de uma pista através de meticulosa e economicamente colocados avanços rítmicos e melódicos, rapidamente tornaram Daniel num dos nomes mais relevantes da música de dança, lançando-o em infindáveis tournés mundiais que serviram para consolidar ainda mais o seu estatuto. Najaaraq Vestbirk was born in Greenland but grew up mostly in Denmark, outside the normative dance music circuit. She was selected as a participant at the sought-after RBMA workshop series in 2014 and steadily rose to prominence from then on. 2016 was a key year in that process, a time where Courtesy established herself as a solo artist and launched the label Ectotherm with her then Apeiron crew cohort Mama Snake. Her lauded Crack Magazine and FACT mixes in the same year attest to her penchant for blending styles that actively push the boundaries of dance music: weird, sonic-sculped textures meet polished four-to-the-floor productions, sci-fi leaning electro and rave-tinged breaks. This last year Courtesy also expanded her label Ectotherm into a two-part project with the introduction of its curve ball-throwing counterpart Endotherm; and the label runs a monthly residency on London's independent radio institution NTS Radio. A unique voice that needs to be heard loud and proud, and has deservedly been getting the attention she deserves. This time, it's our turn to revel in her gift. Daniel Avery Globally recognised as one of today's most consistent techno artists, Daniel Avery wasn't always an artisan of unforgiving dancefloor bombs. Dan is, in fact, an indie-kid and grew up fascinated with guitar music. As a DJ and producer, however, he was always fully committed with the creative process and firmly decided not to slow down his own metamorphosis; he went on to refine non-conventional rock influences such as My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth through the unending plasticity of the dance music medium, following on the same integrative footsteps of DJs like Erol Alkan or Andrew Weatherall (both professed fans of his work and well-known mentors). Through dance music labels of similar rock sensibility such as Optimo Music, Relish or Throne of Blood, Daniel was able to reach growing notoriety. His music, even back then, seemed to venture into progressively more abstract and electronic turf - always haunted by the dark musical spectres of Chris & Cosey or Coil, of course. When Erol Alkan welcomed him into his own label Phantasy Sound, in 2012, a new phase of techno refinement took place bringing his music to the global centre stage; first with a series of singles and then, afterwards, with this debut album "Drone Logic" - widely acclaimed internationally as one of 2013's best albums. This new analogue techno pulse, crafted with his brilliant ability to control the energy of a dancefloor through meticulous and sparingly-placed rhtyhms and melodies, quickly turned Daniel Avery into one of dance music's most relevant names, launching him into endless DJ tours that eventually made him even more of a household name. Fast forward to 2016, even with his clubbing home Fabric closed down, Daniel seems even more invested in taking the universal language of the four to the floor to new levels of abstraction and psychedelic bliss - both with his new single "Sensation" or his collaborations with Volte/Face, both perfect for the most mental and hypnotic hours of a Berghain night-out (or a Lux one).
