Momentum - 10 Years of Token: Ø [Phase] x Kr!z x Amulador

Kr!z

Há 10 anos atrás, Kr!z sentia-se a olhar para um túnel sem fim aparente. Enquanto DJ residente das famosas festas Kozzmozz, na Bélgica, ele gostava do som cru e impactante de nomes como Jeff Mills, Surgeon e James Ruskin, mas haviam muitos poucos discos a sair nessa linha. Simplesmente, o techno mais duro não era bem visto. Escavando um pouco mais no fim do túnel, no entanto, Kr!z teve contacto com o trabalho de veteranos ignorados como Inigo Kennedy e Ø [Phase] e resolveu tomar o assunto nas suas próprias mãos. Assim nasceu a Token, em 2007, sendo a celebração da primeira década de existência da label o principal motivo para a vinda de Kr!z ao Lux. Em 10 anos muita coisa mudou no panorama techno e Kr!z e a Token fizeram escola, de certa forma. Atente-se na variedade e ao mesmo tempo muito própria identidade da recém-editada compilação comemorativa, ‘Momentum’, onde Kr1z se estreia na produção, e perceber-se-á que a luz no fundo do túnel, foi ele quem lá a pôs.


Ø [Phase]

Ashley Burchett foi um dos tais ilustres desconhecidos injustamente esquecidos, que levaram Kr!z a criar a Token. A fé mútua de ambos é tal, que Kr!z afirma que Ø [Phase] já devia ser um nome enorme há anos, ao passo que Ashley tem compensado esta crença lançando única e exclusivamente na Token. Trata-se portanto da simbiose perfeita, que leva a que seja possível afirmar que talvez ninguém represente melhor o som da Token do que o DJ e produtor londrino: duro, propulsivo, cheio de detalhe que faz cada partícula de som parecer vital à totalidade da faixa, e nunca virando as costas à luz e beleza de uma melodia épica. Há 2 anos atrás, no título do seu álbum de 2015,  Ashley perguntava ‘Alone In Time?’. Talvez não fosse esse o sentido da questão, mas ao fim de quase duas décadas de carreira, Ø [Phase] continua a ser uma figura fora de tempos e modas, fiel ao que sempre foi. Ele sempre ali esteve, nós é que só agora o apanhámos.

Kr!z

10 years ago Kr!z felt like he was looking at a tunnel with no apparent end. As resident DJ at the famous Kozzmozz parties in Belgium, he enjoyed the raw and impactful sound of . names like Jeff Mills, Surgeon and James Ruskin, but there were very few records coming out in that style. Put simply, hard-edged techno was looked down upon. Digging a little bit more at the end of the tunnel, however, Kr!z got to know the work of ignored veterans like Inigo Kennedy or Ø [Phase] and decided to take matters in his own hands. Thus Token was born, in 2007, and celebrating the 1st decade of the label is the reason for Kr!z´s visit to Lux. In 10 years many things have changed in the techno panorama and Kr!z and Token have sort of become a standard for the sound. Just look at the variety and identity displayed on the recently released ‘Momentum’ compilation, where Kr!z makes his production debut, and you´ll realize that the light at the end of the tunnel was actually put there by him. 


Ø [Phase]

Ashley Burchett was one of the before mentioned illustrious unknowns and unfairly forgotten names that brought Kr!z to launch Token. Their mutual faith is so deep that on the one hand, Kr!z says Ø [Phase] should be a big name since years ago, while Ashley has compensated this belief by releasing his productions exclusively on Token. We are, then, talking about the perfect symbiosis, which allows us to affirm that probably no one represents the Token sound better than the London-based producer and DJ: tough, propulsive, full of details making each particle of sound sound vital to the whole track, and never turning it´s to the light and beauty of an epic melody. 2 years ago on the title of his 2015 album, Ashley asked ‘Alone In Time?’. Maybe that wasn´t the intention of the question, but after almost 2 decades into his career, Ø [Phase] is still a figure outside of time or trends, faithful to what he´s always been. He´s always been there, it was us that took a long time to catch up to him.
