Simpósio Internacional: Pode a arte ser ainda subversiva?

Com curadoria de Marie-Laure Bernadac e Bernard Marcadé, o simpósio, que decorrerá no Centro Cultural Olga Cadaval nos dias 24 e 25 de Novembro, contará com a participação de artistas, realizadores, filósofos, músicos e actores internacionais. Será acompanhado por um ciclo de filmes.

PODE A ARTE SER AINDA SUBVERSIVA?

Futurismo, dadaísmo, surrealismo, situacionismo: o século XX ocidental terá feito da subversão (política, social e estética) um dado incontornável do pensamento, da arte e da acção. É preciso admiti-lo: a subversão tornou-se uma das figuras obrigatórias da nossa época. Esta ideia acabou por fazer jurisprudência, ao ponto de ser retomada e incorporada por todos os «dispositivos de poder» (mercado, publicidade, instituições culturais e museológicas), incluindo os piores (neofascismos, integrismos). «Se queremos que tudo fique igual, é preciso que tudo mude»*: esta fórmula do Leopardo soa, a este respeito, como um aviso.
O simpósio tentará questionar as implicações desta «retoma/recuperação». Procurará sobretudo averiguar se, através de práticas contemporâneas (teóricas, cinematográficas, romanescas, artísticas), é ainda possível hoje entrever e promover um pensamento e uma acção artísticos, colocando em jogo intensidades rebeldes a todas as formas de autoritarismo.

It will be accompanied by the screening of a series of films.

CAN ART STILL BE SUBVERSIVE TODAY?

Futurism, dada, surrealism, situationism: the western 20th century has made of subversion (political, social and aesthetic) an inescapable fact in thought, art and action. We have to agree: subversion has become one of the compulsory figures of our time. This idea has ended up setting a precedent, to the point of being taken up and incorporated into every “power structure” (market, publicity, cultural and museum institutions), including the worst ones (neo-fascisms, fundamentalisms). “If we want things to stay as they are, things will have to change”*: this formula from The Leopard sounds in this context like a warning.  
The symposium will try to question the ins and outs of this “resurgence/recovery”. Above all, it will try to see, through contemporary practices (theoretical, cinematic, novelistic, artistic), if it is still possible today to foresee and to promote an artistic thought and action by bringing into play certain intensities that rebel against all forms of authoritarianism.
