Começando com um interesse entre o território e a potencialidade política, o coreógrafo explora dois materiais artísticos sobredeterminados, o filme de Walter Verdin para as Variações Variantes Goldberg de de J.S. Bach e as músicas do Buena Vista Social Club. Através da incapacidade do performer e da relação insípida com o material, parece-nos que o espectador é instado a reconsiderar as políticas da Estética. O que vemos e ouvimos são e não são a dança de Steve Paxton e as músicas românticas do Buena Vista Social. Powered by Emotion é uma artificialidade completa na sua forma mais natural. O seu trabalho gere as relações entre a estética e o mundo em que ele explora através de práticas que se sustentam em conceitos que atravessam os mediums da dança para a pintura, da escrita ficcional para o som. Em paralelo, tem sido uma figura proeminente no ensino, em diversas publicação e pensamento crítico. Os seus trabalhos mais recentes na dança contemporânea têm tido um forte reconhecimento internacional devido à sua ressonância proeminente com a cultura contemporânea. É professor de coreografia na art academy of Oslo e é artista associado da Black Box Teater também em Oslo. Starting with an interest between territory and political potentiality the choreographer explores two overdetermined artistic materials Walter Verdin’s film of Steve Paxton’s dance to J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations and the songs of Buena Vista Social Club. Through the performers inability and nonplussed relation to the material it appears that the spectator is urged to reconsider a politics of aesthetics. What we see and hear both is and isn’t Steve Paxton dancing and Buena Vista Social Club voicing sentimental love. Powered by Emotion is utter artificiality in its most natural form. His work is concerned with relations between aesthetics and the world which he explores through a concept based practice that crosses media from dance to painting, fictional writing to sound, next to which he is active in education, publishing and critical writing. His more recent work in dance has gained strong international reputation as it resonates prominently with contemporary culture.
