About Mestre Grilo:
At the age of 13 Grilo started training in Rio de Janeiro with his Mestres Garrincha and Sorriso, co-founders of Grupo Senzala (since 1963).
In 1989 he came to Europe to participate in international capoeira meetings and to perform in capoeira shows around the continent.
In 1991 he started Grilo Capoeira Bremen, Germany, and one year later Grilo Capoeira Amsterdam and soon Leiden, The Netherlands, followed.
In the summer of 2009 Grilo was given the red cord by his mestres in Rio de Janeiro and took his place between the select few Senzala Masters in the art of Capoeira.
Rolê (Ruben Menezes)
Rolê started training Capoeira with Mestre Grilo in Leiden, The Netherlands, in 2004.
He has since traveled throughout Belgium, Germany, France and Portugal until co-founding the Brussels' Senzala School Project in 2011.
In 2013 Rolê moved to Aljezur, Portugal where he began hosting the annual Grilo Capoeira Summer Meeting, as well as offering workshops and regular trainings for adults and children.
Training with Grilo Capoeira is a complete workout for your body, mind and soul.
Once you start practicing regularly you will notice fast improvements in strength, endurance, coordination, and flexibility.
The Capoeira game will force to you to constantly react on others' movements, helping you develop your reflexes, balance and focus.
Music has an important role in the game. You will learn different energetic rythms and to play percussion instruments.
Capoeira music comes with Portuguese lyrics. You will also be learning a language and integrating into a new culture.
