Title: From Lisbon to Silicon Valley

Abstract:

Life lessons from a PhD graduate, who with no experience traveled to Silicon Valley for his first job at a startup tech company.  Now,  5
years later, still living and working in the heart of the technology
mecca, Joao Antunes will be here to share his journey and experience. What is Silicon Valley? How can I work there? What is a good compensation? These are some of the questions that the author will try to address.  

Short Bio:

Joao Antunes is a software engineer with a PhD in security and
dependability of network systems and over seven years of experience in pan-european research projects. He is the author of several international research papers, two U.S. patents (one pending approval) and two thesis/books on network attack injection. For the past five years he has been working at exciting SaaS startups in San Francisco, CA, with a wide range of different programming languages and technologies, namely C++, Ruby on Rails, Python, Redis, ElasticSearch, MySQL, Postgres, Docker, Amazon ECS, etc.
