Não esperem que Chez Damier vos seja vendido por tops de revistas, vídeos ultra produzidos no YouTube ou demais artifícios de marketing. E não o esperem porque Chez Damier é música, é música pura, uma vida de dedicação, uma vida que tornou possível a vida artística de muitos outros – e mesmo os que não se inspiraram nele para eles mesmos serem DJs ou produtores, certamente lhe devem uma panóplia momentos na pista de dança que fazem a ligação entre o mundano e uma visão do sagrado, seja lá qual for a maneira que cada um o encara. Chicago, Detroit, Nova Iorque, tudo cidades chave na música de dança electrónica, tudo cidades onde Chez já viveu e de onde, certamente, soube absorver o fervilhar do dia a dia e a energia de tantos e tantos que se cruzam a cada esquina. Quando começou, aí com uns 14 anos, a perceber a ginga da dança nos clubes, era um puto rebelde como tantos outros, e era isso que significava toda a experiência de ir a um clube ou uma festa, a rebelião contra o instituído e a procura de passar umas boas horas. Enganem-se, agora, os saudosistas que achavam que ele ia dizer que “naquele tempo é que era bom”: Chez Damier apressa-se a dizer que hoje se continua a sair pelas mesmas razões, a procura de umas horas bem passadas. E nesta zona autónoma que é a pista de dança do Lux, recebê-lo é ter a alegria e a reverência em saber que recebemos não só um dos gigantes, não só um dos que carrega o nome “House” às costas quase desde que tudo começou, mas que continua activamente a impulsioná-lo, a trabalhar em estúdio (com o também lendário Ron Trent dirigiu a Prescription, mas há já bons anos que uma divisão o levou a ficar com a Balance e, para além disso, vai-se desmultiplicando em originais e remisturas), em percorrer o mundo, e a levar passado e futuro a cada um de nós que queira escutar atentamente. Já são muitos anos, desde os tempos em que misturava junto a Frankie Knuckles e Kevin Saunderson, para mencionar apenas alguns, mas o próprio diz ter pena daqueles que estagnam e não se reinventam, redescobrem ou procuram mais além. When he started out going to clubs, at only some 14 years old, he was a rebellious kid like so many others, and that's what the whole experience of going to a club or a party meant, the rebellion against established rules and looking to have a good time. We can already sense some nostalgic ones reading this text and thinking he’d say "oh yeah back in those days is where it was at": but Chez Damier hastens to say that today’s clubbers continue to go out for the same for the same reasons, the demand of a few hours well spent. And in this autonomous zone that is the Lux Frágil dancefloor, we welcome him with all the joy and reverence of knowing we welcome not only one of the Giants, not only one of those who carries the name "House" on his back almost since he began doing what he does, but that he is still actively promoting it, be it working in the studio (for years he ran the legendary Prescription label with Ron Trent, but a split led him to stay running Balance and, on top of that, he keeps busy with many originals and remixes), travelling the world to DJ, and bringing past and future sounds to each of us who want to listen carefully. It's been many years since the times he played together with Frankie Knuckles and Kevin Saunderson, to mention just a few, but he himself claims to pity of those who stagnate and not reinvent, rediscover, or seek further.
