Tatiana Macedo - Orientalism and Reverse (inauguração)

Inauguração da exposição "Orientalism and Reverse" de Tatiana Macedo. Aberta ao público até 18 de Novembro.

Orientalism and Reverse é uma extensa série fotográfica que tenho mostrado por partes, em diversos países e cidades ao longo dos últimos anos - Amesterdão, Roterdão, Rio de Janeiro, Berlim e actualmente na Bienal Internacional de Jeju na Coreia do Sul (1 Set a 3 de Dez 2017). Após publicar uma parte em formato livro, (Ghost Editions / Kunstraum Botschaft 2016), decido mostrar, pela primeira vez, um grande número de imagens desta série, nunca antes expostas. Nesta exposição, o que há para ‘ver’, está contido em cada um destes rectângulos, e no conjunto que formam dentro deste rectângulo maior que os abriga. O que se vê, é o que o conhecimento, a sensibilidade e a capacidade crítica de cada um lhes permitirá ver.

Orientalism and Reverse is an extensive photographic series that has been shown in parts in various countries and cities throughout recent years - Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Rio de Janeiro, Berlin and currently at the Jeju International Biennial of Contemporary Art in South Korea (1st Sep. to 3rd Dec. 2017). Ater publishing part of it in book form (Ghost Editions / Kunstraum Botschaft 2016), I’ve decided to show, for the first time, a large number of pieces from this series that have never been shown before. In this exhibition, what is there to be ‘seen’, is contained in each one of these rectangles, in them as a whole and within the space that hosts them. And what is there to be seen is what each individual’s knowledge, sensibility and critical thinking allows them to see.

Tatiana Macedo
Nascida em Portugal, de ascendência angolana, cresceu e estudou em Lisboa e em Londres (Mestrado em Antropologia Visual na Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa e BA Fine Arts, Central St. Martins College of Art & Design, Londres). A sua obra desenvolve-se transdisciplinarmente entre a instalação, a fotografia, o cinema, o som e as suas formas expandidas. O seu primeiro filme, 'Seems so long ago, Nancy' foi inteiramente rodado na Tate Modern e Tate Britain e em 2015 foi a primeira vencedora do Prémio Sonae Media Art. Durante o ano de 2016 foi artista residente na Künstlerhaus Bethanien em Berlim com uma bolsa da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. O seu trabalho é exploratório e de grande rigor técnico, crítico e conceptual. Expõe internacionalmente e trabalha entre Lisboa e Berlim.

Born in Portugal of Angolan ascendance, grew up and studied in Lisbon and London (MA Visual Anthropology FCSH, Universidade Nova de Lisboa and BA Fine Arts, Central St. Martins College of Art & Design, London). Macedo works across mediums such as installation, photography, cinema, sound and their expanded forms. Her debut film was entirely shot at Tate Britain and Tate Modern and in 2015 she was the first winner of the Sonae Media Art Award. During 2016 she was an artist in residence at Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Her work is of great critical, conceptual and technical accuracy in an exploratory and enquiry way. Macedo shows internationally and lives and works between Lisbon and Berlin.
