A sua estreia "Equation EP" na meteórica plataforma Lobster Theremin confirma-o; o jovem Jay Donaldson vive bem com a crueza Roland, sem tratamento nem filtro - só música. Mas a forma como instrumentaliza uma paleta e métodos normalmente associados a resultados frios para criar uma sequência de hits underground globais cheios de côr, vida e emoção transbordante é única e colocou-o no centro de tudo. Em "Forever", ainda na Lobster, fez-nos sonhar com praias longínquas e ravers viajantes do final dos 80s, a sacar ondas perfeitas em VHS. É assinado pela nova gigante holandesa Dekmantel, editora do festival-referência do mesmo nome, e sente-se o salto de sofisticação nas suas produções também - mas o mesmo sumo do início continua lá. Na cabine de DJ, o poder transportador das suas selecções é inegável (também). House original de Chicago, disco de brilho digital, italo, electro, boogie, techno melódico, garage de Nova Iorque - a sua "mala" é surpreendentemente vasta para a sua tenra idade e despertar recente para o underground. But the way in which he instrumentalizes a palette and methods normally associated to cold results to create a string of global underground hits that are packed with colours, life and emotion is unique and put him right at the centre of it all. In 'Forever', on Lobster, he made us dream with far-away beaches and travelling raves in the late 80s, scoring perfect waves on VHS. He was then signed by new Dutch giant Dekmantel, the label named after the essential festival, and we could feel a huge step forward in sophistication in his productions, while keeping the emotional content that defines him from day one. In the DJ booth, the transporting power of his selections is equally undeniable. Chicago's original house, digitally polished disco, italo, electro, boogie, melodic techno, New York garage - his 'bag' is surprisingly rich for his young age and recent immersion in underground dance music.
