Cristina Rodrigues: A Retrospective

Cristina Rodrigues is a Portuguese artist and architect born in Porto in 1980. The artist’s multidisciplinary background can be traced back to her studies in architecture (1998), medieval and renaissance history (2004) and contemporary art (2010). She graduated in architecture and completed a Masters degree in medieval and renaissance history at the University of Porto, Portugal. She later moved to Manchester, United Kingdom, where she lectured at university and was awarded a PhD from Manchester School of Art.
Cristina’s research and artistic practice has already influenced students and young researchers in Portugal and the U.K. Her large-scale art installations and sculptures, the collaborative result with various groups of Portuguese artisans, were widely viewed by international audiences in England, Portugal, Spain, Germany, China, Brazil, Japan and Sri Lanka. Her artworks were featured in international publications such as Art Radar (2017); SCULPTURE Magazine (2016) – on the cover; Aesthetica Magazine (2016); Artnet (2016); Villas & Golfe Magazine (2016); Notícias Magazine (2015); Mutante Magazine (2015); ATTITUDE Interior Design Magazine (2014); etc.

Arquiteta e artista plástica, Cristina Rodrigues nasceu no Porto em 1980. A sua base multidisciplinar está ligada à sua formação em Arquitetura (1998), História Medieval e do Renascimento (2004) e Arte Contemporânea (2010). Licenciou-se em Arquitetura e obteve um mestrado em História Medieval e do Renascimento na Universidade do Porto. Mais tarde foi viver para a cidade de Manchester, no Reino Unido, onde foi docente e concluiu o seu doutoramento na Manchester School of Art.
A sua investigação e prática artística influenciaram já estudantes e jovens investigadores em Portugal e no Reino Unido. As suas esculturas e instalações de arte de grande escala, por vezes resultantes de um trabalho colaborativo com vários grupos de artesãos portugueses, têm sido apreciadas por variadas audiências internacionais em Inglaterra, Portugal, Espanha, Alemanha, China, Brasil, Japão e Sri Lanka. As suas obras integram várias publicações nacionais e internacionais, nomeadamente o Art Radar (2017); a SCULPTURE Magazine (2016), como capa da revista; a Aesthetica Magazine (2016); o Artnet (2016); a Villas & Golfe Magazine (2016); a Notícias Magazine (2015); a Mutante Magazine (2015); a ATTITUDE Interior 
Design Magazine (2014), entre outras.
