Documentário SPIRIT OF NATURE. LESSONS FROM THE SHUAR IN ECUADOR + Q&A, na Galeria LAR, dia 7 de Abril às 18h30 Contribuição: 3€ Em 2014, Dewi e Morten viajaram por 4 meses e meio pela América do Sul. Estiveram na Amazônia Equatoriana durante seis semanas onde faziam trabalho voluntário com uma família de um dos povos indígenas do Equador: os Shuar. Envolveram-se nas atividades diárias dos Shuar, como apanhar legumes e preparar os alimentos. Também aprenderam sobre plantas medicinais e viram o que as crianças aprendiam na escola. Durante este período na selva descobriram o que nós, no ocidente, podemos aprender com pessoas como os Shuar. A forma como eles são um só com a natureza, o respeito por todos os seres vivos, a forma como eles usam produtos naturais como medicamentos e como aproveitam o tempo para si em vez de stressar, isto pode-nos ensinar muito. Em Spirit of Nature, Morten e Dewi, partilham as suas experiências e aprendizagens para poder inspirar outras pessoas a serem mais conscientes do impacto dos seus atos em si mesmo e no ambiente. Biografias Dewi (Holanda), durante os seus estudos em antropologia cultural em Amsterdão especializou-se em antropologia visual. Em 2012 licenciou-se com o seu segundo documentário, que explorava a herança indonésia da sua própria família. Desde então o documentário tem sido, por várias vezes, apresentado na Holanda e está disponível para venda em DVD. Tendo viajado pela América Latina, Austrália, Europa, Ásia e Canadá, Dewi decidiu que durante a sua viagem à América do Sul em 2014 – 2015, queria retribuir alguma coisa ao mundo. Desta forma, ela poderia combinar o seu amor por viajar, com as suas capacidades cineastas. Viveu, durante seis semanas, com o seu companheiro Morten Tøndel e com os índios Shuar na Amazônia Equatoriana. Spirit of Nature é o resultado e está pronto para ser partilhado. Dewi é guiada pela convicção de que, enquanto trabalharmos juntos, acreditarmos e tivermos fé no poder da unidade e da colaboração, poderemos fazer deste mundo um lugar bem melhor. Morten (Noruega), depois de ter um emprego das 9h às 17h em telecomunicações e de durante 10 anos pagar a sua hipoteca decidiu abandonar esta vida de rato. Comprou um bilhete de só de ida para o México com a intenção de dar a volta mundo. Enquanto viajava pela América Central, conheceu Dewi Staal, apaixonou-se e mudou-se para Amsterdão. Ali ele aprendeu a falar holandês e trabalhou num bar onde podia aperfeiçoar as suas habilidades linguísticas recentemente adquiridas. Em 2014, durante uma viagem pela América do Sul viveu com os Índios Shuar no Equador. Isto transformou-se no projeto documental: Spirit of Nature, onde Morten faz a sua estreia jornalística. A ansiedade e a sede pelo conhecimento levaram Morten a visitar vários países, diferentes culturas, em busca de conexões significativas e de uma melhor compreensão do mundo à sua volta. ------ english ------ Screening short documentary SPIRIT OF NATURE. They stayed in the Ecuadorian Amazon for six weeks, to do volunteer work with a family of one of the indigenous peoples of Ecuador: the Shuar. They were involved in daily activities, like harvesting vegetables and preparing food. They also learned about medicinal plants and saw what the children learn at school. During their time in the jungle, they discovered what we, in the west, can learn from people like the Shuar. The way they are one with nature, have respect for all living beings, the way they use natural products as medicines and take their time instead of stress, can teach us a lot. In Spirit of Nature, Morten and Dewi share their experiences and lessons, to inspire others to be more aware of the impact of their acts, on themselves and their environment. Bio Dewi is from The Netherlands. During her studies in cultural anthropology in Amsterdam, she specialised in visual anthropology. In 2012 she graduated with her second documentary, which explored her own family’s Indonesian heritage. Her documentary has since been screened several times in the Netherlands and is for sale on DVD. Having traveled in Latin America, Australia, Europe, Asia and Canada, Dewi decided that during her trip to South America in 2014-2015, she wanted to give something back to the world. In this way she could combine her love for traveling with her filming skills. Together with her partner Morten Tøndel, she stayed with the Shuar Indians in the Ecuadorian Amazon for six weeks. Spirit of Nature is the result and is ready to be spread. Dewi is driven by the belief that as long as we work together, believe and have faith in the power of unity and collaboration, we can make this world a better place. Morten is from Norway. After working a 9-5 job in telecommunications and paying his mortgage for ten years he decided to get out of the rat race. He bought a one-way ticket to Mexico with an intention of going around the world. While travelling through Central America he met DewiStaal, fell in love and moved to Amsterdam. Here he learned to speak Dutch and worked in a bar to perfect his newly acquainted language skills. In 2014, during a trip through parts South America he stayed with the Shuar Indians in Ecuador. This turned in to the documentary project:Spirit of Nature, where Morten makes his journalistic debut. Morten’s wanderlust and thirst for knowledge has brought him to many countries visiting many different cultures in a search for meaningful connections and an understanding of the world around him.
