John Osborn x Yen Sung [Disco]

Não há almoços grátis. Ou pelo menos foi nessa expressão em que o londrino arranjou inspiração para a editora que comanda, a TANSTAAFL (there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch). A sua versatilidade, exímia técnica (um orgulho pessoal, diz) e olho de falcão para a pista tornam-no um segredo bem guardado de alguns, mas já há muito descoberto por outros: podemos destacar aparições regulares no Panoramabar, em Berlim, ou de vários “back to back” com Scuba no Concrete, em Paris. Será que não existem mesmo almoços grátis? Bom, pelo menos sabemos que é impossível por um preço verdadeiro à Música. A partir do momento em que soa, torna-se uma experiência íntima com o ouvinte. E a postos estamos para receber John Osborn e a sua mala de discos.
Impossível duvidar do gosto de quem traz na bagagem 20 anos de experiência e nas suas editoras já lançou música de ilustres como Joey Anderson, Henning Baer ou John Daly, deixando de lado preconceitos de época ou género quando soube à cabine. Movimentando-se à volta do House mais cheio e musculado e do Techno profundo e incisivo, Osborn não tem deixado ninguém indiferente por onde passa. Esta sua estreia no Lux Frágil é mais uma daquelas noites com um apelo que já ecoou antes: não fiquem à espera de saber quem será alvo do próximo “zumzum” por aí – venham-no comprovar e façam-no vocês mesmos. Não é um almoço, mas por certo uma grande noite com John Osborn.

There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch. Or at least this is the saying where Londoner John Osborn found the inspiration for the name of the label he owns, TANSTAAFL. His versatility, excellent mixing skills (something he’s personally proud of) and a great eye for sizing up the dancefloor make him a a well kept secret for some, but not so much for many, many others, as regular Panoramabar appearances confirm, not to mention his legendary back to back sets with Scuba at Concrete, Paris. Are there really no free lunches? Well, at least we know it’s impossible to set a value for music: once it’s being played, it becomes an intimate experience with the listener. And ready we are to welcome John Osborn and his bag of tunes!
It’s impossible to doubt the fine taste of someone who’s been doing this for w0 years and has released music by the likes of Joey Anderson, Henning Baer or John Daly, leaving behind any prejudice when he steps up to the booth. Moving around a scenery made of mostly of detailed, muscled House Music and deep and incisive Techno, Osborn has been turning heads everywhere he plays. This debut at Lux is one of those events where we need to say this again: don’t wait for someone else to tell you who’s a great DJ – come on down and witness it for yourselves. It ain’t no lunch, but for sure it’ll be a fantastic night with John Osborn.
