O sorriso terno, o olhar sobre a pista, atento, como que com atenção especial a cada um de nós, mas ao mesmo tempo quase tímido. Alemão. Com a sua Innervisions (que divide com Âme), Steffen Berkhahn (que já foi atleta profissional, tramado por um joelho, felizmente para nós, que ganhámos um DJ...) salvou o House europeu de ser completamente engolido pelo Techno germânico e ajudou a esculpir o que de melhor hoje se faz no género aqui pelo velho continente. É o DJ de atitude, a servir de inspiração a tantos outros. Não tem medo de afirmar que às vezes é preciso insistir numa dada música, mesmo que esvazie a pista – as pistas também servem para serem esvaziadas e cheias novamente, mudando energia, fazendo quem dança correr de novo até perto duma coluna, até debaixo de um projector. Dixon é Dixon, simplesmente. Alguém que há décadas faz o que ama. Alguém cujo perfeccionismo e dedicação se traduziram em algo muito especial para quem ouve. Para quem dança. Das melodias corridas e belas unidas com o bater forte das caixas de ritmos cruas. O hipnotismo, a capacidade de nos transportar para fora de nós. Para um sítio mais acima, mais além. Where to go after you’ve reached the top? You keep on with your path, you raise the bar. You go beyond yourself. Dixon has reached it. For many, he’s number one. Someone who represents perfection, or something near it. For others, he’s something of an enlightened being, among other enlightened beings, on a very restrict group. However it is, it’s hard to not be moved by him. In the DJ booth, we could spend hours observing his calm and serene ways, were it not for our irresistible need to dance. Even in his tranquil state, he’s provoking temporary madness in thousands of people, and then we realize every atom of him is Music! His gentle smile, his look upon the dancefloor, attentive, like he’s checking out every one of his dancers but, at the same time, almost timid. German. With Innervisions, the label he runs together with Âme, Steffen Berkhahn (who was at a point in time a professional athlete, a career ruined by a bad knee) helped save European House from being swallowed whole by German Techno sounds, as well as sculpting the best in what’s being done in the genre here in our old continent. He’s a DJ with a strong attitude, helping serve as a role model for many others. For example, he’s not afraid to say it’s ok to insist in a certain track, even if it empties the dancefloor – dancefloors are also made to be emptied and then packed again afterwards, clubbers running back to their spot near a speaker or under that specific spotlight, eager to dance. Dixon is Dixon, to put it bluntly. Someone who’s been doing what he loves for decades. Someone whose perfectionism and dedication have translated into something very special for those who listen.
