TRIP TO COIMBRA - Queima das Fitas

Join us for the 1-day incredibly enjoyable trip to the university city of Coimbra, where you will experience the madness and happiness of students celebrating the end of their student life!

Queima das Fitas (ang. Ribbon burning) is an academic traditional festivity of the graduating students. The first Queima das Fitas was organized in the middle of the 19th century by the students of the University of Coimbra, which is the oldest university of the country, and for many centuries the only one in Portugal. These celebrations have a simple meaning: after burning ribbons, the students can lead a bohemian life for a few days and have fun before the final exams’ season begins. During the Queima das Fitas week in May, students wear top hats and walking sticks, playing with the fact that they are nearly graduates.

Queima das Fitas is the biggest yearly celebration for the students and citizens as well. During the festival's week many groups of students from other Portuguese universities and thousands of visitors come to enjoy it. The festivities run for a full week in May, beginning with the traditional nighttime Fado serenade in the square of the Old Cathedral of Coimbra which is packed with students in their black capes, and according to the ritual - studies are forgotten for a week of joy and all-night revelry!

The highest point of the festivities is the Cortejo – a beer-filled parade throughout the city center with the graduating students burning their ribbons and dozens of elaborately decorated floats (representing their faculties and carrying placards with ironic criticisms alluding to teachers, educational system, national events, leaders etc.).

PROGRAM:

08:30 – Meeting point, to be announced

09:00 – Departure to Coimbra

10:50 – Arrival in Coimbra: free time to explore the city and enjoy the student parade

18:30 – Meeting point for departure to Lisbon

19:00 – Departure to Lisbon

20:50 – Arrival in Lisbon

ATTENTION: Bring appropriate clothes for this “beer-soaked” adventure and other to change - please note that no one stays dry in Queima das Fitas.

- 15€ Early ticket with the TIAB Events card (First 25) - AVAILABLE ONLY IN TIAB EVENTS OFFICE - Tickets and TIAB Events cards will be checked at the entrance to the bus, and who doesn't have, must pay 5€ more that is the price of the card with the trip

- 20€ Early ticket without the TIAB Events card (price includes the TIAB Events card) - AVAILABLE ONLY IN TIAB EVENTS OFFICE

- 20€ Standard ticket with the TIAB Events card - Tickets and TIAB Events cards will be checked at the entrance to the bus, and who doesn't have, must pay 5€ more that is the price of the card with the trip
 
- 25€ Standard ticket without the TIAB Events card (price includes the TIAB Events card)

The price includes: transportation by chartered bus and insurance.

NOTE-> If you don’t have our TIAB Events discount card, you will have to buy in the meeting point for only 5€ (promotional price for who buys one of our trips), or before with one of our promoters or at our office, just show the payment proof of your ticket. Tickets and TIAB Events cards will be checked at the entrance to the bus.
