JOE MORRIS
Joe Morris nasceu em New Haven, Connecticut, em 1955. Começou, desde os 12 anos, uma carreira de auto-aprendizagem em diversos instrumentos – primeiro, a trompete, logo depois a guitarra, depois o banjo, até bem recentemente, há menos de uma década, abordar com mais seriedade o contrabaixo. Foi, no entanto, precisamente com a guitarra que construiu uma carreira ímpar no contexto do jazz mais livre: é, sem recorrer a hipérbole, o mais importante e influente guitarrista nesse contexto após o lendário Sonny Sharrock, ainda que a sua preferência por um som ‘limpo’, sem recurso a distorção ou efeitos, o situe numa linhagem de maior acessibilidade a ouvidos desprevenidos. A este facto não serão alheias as influências que sempre confessou, que, mais do que de guitarristas, provieram de grandes saxofonistas como Eric Dolphy ou Jimmy Lyons, bem como de uma particular atenção para com os instrumentos de cordas da África Ocidental ou para com o trabalho de compositores como Olivier Messiaen ou Charles Ives.
Tocou e gravou, desde finais da década de 70, com praticamente todos os nomes que têm escrito a história do jazz nestes últimos quarenta anos, desde William Parker, Matthew Shipp ou Andrew Cyrille, a Ken Vandermark, Joe McPhee e Eugene Chadbourne ou Hamid Drake.
No OUT.FEST, teremos uma oportunidade imperdível para, além de um raro solo de guitarra, testemunhar in loco a sua técnica, percurso e visão únicas no workshop que leccionará, baseado nas ideias expressas no seu mais recente livro, ´Perpetual frontier: The properties of free music’.


RHODRI DAVIES
Nome britânico destacado no panorama contemporâneo de executantes de harpa no âmbito da música experimental e da livre improvisação, tem vindo a procurar novas e improváveis técnicas e abordagens ao instrumento, incluindo hibridizações entre a harpa e electrónica, e desmantelamento e destruição do objecto ao vivo em contexto performativo. Com trabalho de composição editado e apresentado em concerto, escrita para solos ou para ensembles de constituição variável, de realçar também que novas peças para harpa foram compostas para si por nomes ilustres como Eliane Radigue, Christian Wolff ou Mieko Schiomi. No campo das artes expositivas, tem construído um percurso paralelo marcado por instalações audiovisuais em grande escala apresentadas em salas e festivais multidisciplinares internacionais.

JOE MORRIS
Joe Morris, born in 1955, in New Haven, Connecticut, started, early on, a career centered on self-learning – firstly, taking on the trumpet, followed shortly by the guitar, the banjo, and more recently, a decade ago, approaching the double-bass with seriousness. It was with the guitar, though, that he built a unique path in the context of free jazz: he is, without over-stating it, one of the most important and influential guitarists in the scene since the legendary Sonny Sharrock, though his preference for a ‘clean’ sound, without resorting to distortion or effects, puts him together in a more accessible lineage for the non-initiated. To this have surely contributed his confessed influences – more than guitarists, they came from great sax players such as Eric Dolphy or Jimmy Lyons, and a close attention and affection for Western Africa string music and composers as Olivier Messiaen or Charles Ives. 
He has played and recorded, since the late 70’s, with practically everyone involved in writing the history of jazz in the past forty years, from William Parker, Matthew Shipp or Andrew Cyrille to Ken Vandermark, Joe McPhee, Eugene Chadbourne or Hamid Drake.
At this year’s OUT.FEST we’ll have the rare opportunity to witness a solo guitar performance and a two-day workshop on which he’ll focus on the ideas contained in his recent book ‘Perpetual frontier: The properties of free music’.


RHODRI DAVIES
British harp player, performer and composer operating in the fields of experimental music and free improvisation that has been a key figure in searching new and improbable techniques and approaches to the instrument, including hybridizations with electronics and live dismantle and destruction of the object on a performative context. Has published and shown live his compositions, written for solo or ensemble formations, and new pieces for harp have been composed for him by such illustrious names as Eliane Radigue, Christian Wolff or Mieko Schiomi. Rodhri has also developed a parallel activity in the field of the exhibitional arts marked by the showing of audiovisual installations work in large scale, both in galleries and international multidisciplinary festivals.
