Ação para requalificação do acesso à Praia do Telheiro (Sagres)!

Se vives ou estás próximo de Sagres, temos um desafio para ti! Entre 16 e 30 de janeiro de 2017, entidades e cidadãos vão arregaçar as mangas e, aliando técnicas de engenharia natural ao conhecimento local, vão recuperar o acesso à Praia do Telheiro – geossítio de referência nacional!

Esta iniciativa é desenvolvida pela Câmara Municipal de Vila do Bispo, voluntários da LPN – Liga para a Protecção da Natureza, Centro de Ecologia Aplicada “Prof. Baeta Neves”, Associação A ROCHA, GEOTA, Grupo Proteger Telheiro e cidadãos voluntários!


O objetivo? 
A arriba fóssil da Praia do Telheiro, inserida em pleno Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina, tem sofrido algumas derrocadas, colocando em causa um património geológico com 250 milhões de anos de história… Algo que as entidades locais, associações de defesa da natureza e os usufrutuários deste espaço estão determinados a travar! 

Como?
Pretende-se restabelecer a cobertura vegetal e estabilizar o talude, de modo a proteger a arriba fóssil, garantir a fruição do espaço em segurança e a preservação do património ambiental. Iremos recorrer a técnicas de engenharia natural aliadas ao conhecimento local. Entre as tarefas inclui-se a colocação de terras, faxinas, sementeiras e plantas.

A arriba fóssil da Praia do Telheiro, integra um dos sítios geológicos e ecológicos mais importantes de Portugal, abrangido pela classificação de Reserva Biogenética de Sagres, o que lhe confere um elevado estatuto de proteção. Para além da discordância angular identificada nos anos 80 pelo Prof. Miguel Magalhães Ramalho, a arriba do Telheiro caracteriza-se pela presença do Habitat prioritário 5140 e grande área coberta por Thymus camphorathus (tomilho-do-mar), espécie endémica do sul de Portugal e protegida por lei, com estatuto de proteção prioritário. VOLUNTEERING - REQUALIFICATION OF THE ACCESS TO TELHEIRO BEACH (SAGRES)

If you live or are near Sagres, we have a challenge for you! 
Between January 16 and 30, entities and citizens/volunteers will roll up one’s sleeves to recover the access to the Telheiro beach – a geosite of high national reference – allying techniques of natural engineering to local knowledge.

This initiative is promoted by the municipality of Vila do Bispo, volunteers of LPN – Liga para a Protecção da Natureza, Centro de Ecologia Aplicada “Prof. Baeta Neves”, Associação A ROCHA, GEOTA, Grupo Proteger Telheiro and citizens/volunteers!


The aim?
The fossil cliff of the Telheiro beach, located in the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, has suffered some overthrows, jeopardizing a geological heritage with 250 million years of history… This is something that local entities, associations of nature protection and people who live and visit that space are determined to stop!

How?
The aim is to re-establish the vegetation cover and stabilize the slope, in order to protect the fossil cliff, ensure the enjoyment of the space in safety and the preservation of the environmental heritage. We will resort to natural engineering techniques coupled with local knowledge. Tasks include land placement, seeding and planting.

The fossil cliff of Telheiro Beach is one of the most important geological and ecological sites in Portugal, covered by the classification of the Biogenetic Reserve of Sagres, which gives it a high protection status. In addition to the angular discordance identified in the 1980s by Prof. Miguel Magalhães Ramalho, the Telheiro cliff is characterized by the presence of the priority Habitat 5140 and a large area covered by Thymus camphorathus (thyme-of-the-sea), an endemic species of southern Portugal and protected by law, with priority protection status.
