Por mais variações que lhes queiramos dar, por mais camadas sonoras que lhes sejam sobrepostas, estas são as fundações do ritmo, o âmago do techno, o combustível da dança. É em busca da magia criada por coisas tão simples, que semana após semana, nos sentimos tentados a viver no escuro, como espíritos em busca da terra prometida. Altos sacerdotes nos congregam, e poucos estão tão alto ou nos levam tão alto, como Robert Hood. Ele estava lá no início, em Detroit, com Jeff Mills e Mike Banks, na Underground Resistance. Foi com ele que o techno minimal se fez ensinamento para gerações e deu origem a uma nação. É para ele que muitos discípulos do techno se voltam quando precisam de redescobrir, compreender de novo, compreender melhor, a essência do que faz mover multidões numa pista, o poder da simplicidade, a eficácia da mensagem, a alma que dá sentido ao que sai das máquinas ou dos pratos.Se instituições tão recentes mas já tão significativas como a Dekmantel a ele recorrem para fazer um statement musical, é porque sabem que os anos passam, mas o que Hood representa e significa, ainda pode ser uma mudança de paradigma para o futuro. Ele é o princípio e o fim, o Genesis e a Redenção, o Alfa e o Omega. Não pode haver meio termo, uma tribo na esquerda e outra na direita, os convertidos na frente e os cépticos mais atrás. As many variations as you wish to impose on them, as many sonic layers as you pile on top of them, these are the foundations of rhythm, the core of techno, the fuel to the dance. It is in search of the magic produced from such simple things that week after week we are tempted to live in the dark, like spirits in search of the promised land. High priests congregate us, and few are as high, or can take us as high, as Robert Hood. He was there in the beginning, in Detroit, with Jeff Mills and Mike Banks, in the Underground Resistance. It was with him that minimal techno became a teaching for the generations, and gave birth to nation. It is towards him that many techno disciples turn, when in need of rediscovering, comprehending again or understanding better, the essence of what moves a crowd on a dancefloor, the power of simplicity, the efficiency of the message, the soul that makes sense of what emanates from the machines or the decks. If institutions as recent but as significant as Dekmantel turn to him to make a musical statement, it´s because they know the years go by, but what Hood represents and means, can still be a paradygm shift for the future. He is the beginning and the end, the genesis and the redemption, the alpha and the omega. There can be no middle ground, one tribe on the left and another on the right, the converted in the front and the sceptical in the back.
