O maravilhoso “turkish delight”. Sabes o que é? É um doce turco antigo, de longa memória. Doce por demais, de goma perpétua qual a herança colorida e de cheiros intensos que Istambul aviva (e merece avivar), de forma tão mais forte e tão mais honrada do que as notícias que hoje a pintam, de ataques que são ataques à cultura, à liberdade, à gente e à história. E não só a turca. Pois, Baris K é produto dessa Istambul adocicada, embrulho de qualquer coisa para sempre maior do que um headline sangrado. É produto de uma margem colada à Europa, mas com raízes seminais num psicadelismo hipnótico, profundamente batido em compassos que o ocidente não soube moldar, mas soube bem render-se. Inspirado por revolucionários do folk e prog rock turco, como Baris Manco, Selda, Mogollar ou Erkin Koray, Baris K tornou-se nome do rapaz que tinha pulso turco nas veias e uma cultura ocidental nos ouvidos. Absorveu o hip hop, funk, jazz, electrónica e música experimental escutada em crescimento, passando todas estas influemcias num programa de rádio semanal - em rádio local. Para alimentar os sambles, os breaks e as selecções acuradas, fez o seu melhor digging. Seu, seu: virou-se para aquilo que de mais precioso e raro poderia desvendar, senão a cultura de uma terra fértil em som espacial, guitarras progressistas fundidas em psicadelismo vibrante, perfumado a haxixe que balança a dança, o disco e as palavras cantadas com soul raro. Baris K gravita por isso em género e fortalece-se em inspiração contagiante para qualquer pista, quebrando barreiras em qualquer as margens do continente e do mundo. Chamou à atenção em 2007, com uma trilogia em mixtape de nome Eurasia - com destaque no Beats in Space de Tim Sweeney, sublinhado por Lovefingers ou os D.I.R.T.Y. Sound System. Tem projectos em nome colectivo, tem remisturas minimais esgrimidas por Ricardo Villalobos, tem um cunho híbrido magistral que lhe permite carregar herança e futuro. It’s an ancient Turkish sweet, of long and tasty memory. An eternal happy moment for so many, registered has a “child-like” colourful image: a candy scented Istambul, the sweetest city of Turkey, a vibrant landscape portrayed recently by such bitter news and highlights that tell of heart breaking attacks on culture, freedom, people and their history. Baris K is product of this sweet Istanbul, product of a bundle of goodness forever greater than a bleeding headline. He’s a result of a complex margin of Europe facing seminal roots of arabic vibes, hypnotic psychadelism, deep beaten sounds that the West could not ever know how to shape. Inspired by folk and prog rock Turkish revolutionaries such as Baris Manco, Selda, Mogollar or Erkin Koray, Baris K became the name of the boy who had a strong Turkish pulse in his veins and a western culture glued to his ears. He absorbed hip hop, funk, jazz, electronic and experimental music while growing, passing on all these influences on a weekly radio show (on local Istambul station). To feed his samples, breaks and accurate selections, he did his best digging. He turned to what he had more precious and rare to unveil, his culture: a culture of a land so fertile in spaced-out tones, slowly build guitars built into vibrant psychadelism that perfumed of hashish. Blurry spacey echoes that force you to dance to an infused disco sound powered by sung words with (very) rare soul. Baris K therefore gravitates in genre and strengthens himself in contagious inspirations, breaking barriers on either the shores of the continent and the world. He drew attention to himself in 2007, with a mixtape trilogy called Eurasia - then highlighted on Tim Sweeney’s Beats in Space, also applauded by Lovefingers and D.I.R.T.Y. Sound System. He has a surprising band, minimal remixes powered by Ricardo Villalobos, and masterful hybrid sets that allow him to carry both inheritance and future on his hands.
