One of today's most requested DJs, Chloé is an authentic Parisian clubbing institution. She's a well-known collaborator of the enfant terrible himself, Ivan Smagghe, with whom she started one of the most relevant underground record labels of the last 15 years: the incredible Kill The DJ. Her renowned, iconoclast editorial streak managed to bring marginal music styles to the fore in the 2000's, opening up a vast range of possibilities for DJing through a healthy cross-pollination between house and techno's hypnotic electronics and the cutting attitude coming from punk, no-wave and experimental music.

Another heavyweight collaborative project upheld by Chloé is the joint-alias forged together with another pioneer of French electro house, Krikor. Together they make music under the name Pleinsoleil and explore that same grey area between the past and the future, disco sensibility and techno-futurism. Electric bass licks merge with emotional, Detroit-style synth lines while a cold and potent rhythm structure carries the organic and passionate pacing of human claps.

Her DJ reputation, both as resident of the historic Parisian club Rex or as a constantly touring international player, is immaculate - and her success as an enchanter of dancing bodies undeniable. That cunning instinct extends also to Chloé's production for an enviable list of key labels such as Ellen Alien's Bpitch Control, New York's Throne of Blood, My Favourite Robot or Live At Robert Johnson. The formula, if we can call it that, is all but easy to pjn down: mutant disco, techno, electro, experimental music, new beat and house.

Ivan Smagghe

Trying to map out French dance music of the last 15 years without including several seminal Ivan Smagghe moments is, at most, pointless. Either as one half of Black Strobe, as Kill The DJ's boss or a resident at legendary Pulp club, Ivan has been an integral part of the more marginal and forwad-thinking side of Paris' musical fabric - as well as a symbol of when the fat beats of French Touch married the raw, synthetic sounds of 70s and 80s synthesisers.

In 2002, under the name Black Strobe - a collaboration with studio partner Arnaud Rebotini -, Ivan Smagghe drops one of the biggest underground hits of its decade: "Me and Madonna", released by Trevor Jackson's visionary imprint Output Recordings. The track took the underground by storm and for a whole year all you hear in a club is the opening line "he's in love with me, me and Madonna". The follow up is a series of explosive tracks like "Innerstrings" or "Abhwer Disco" rescuing dancefloors all over the place with their abrasive synths and compressed snares.

Electro, no-wave, house, techno, cold wave or punk are but a few of the musical coordinates that have always been associated to Ivan's music and his label Kill The DJ - co-founded by Chloé. Adding to all of this, there's his collaborative project with Tim Paris, called A Fine Line, and his regular radio show on NTS Live in London (where he's been based for years now). He's also a frequent DJ booth mate of living legends such as Andrew Weatheral or Optimo and keeps an enviable schedule of international touring dates, much to the joy of avid music fans craving a deeper peek into the content of his bottomless record collection.
