Se nos perguntassem quem escolheríamos para escrever a biografia da “club culture” berlinense, não teríamos grandes dúvidas: escolhemos o Boris. Do início dos anos 80 a dançar disco e Hi-NRG no Metropol, até ao presente momento a passar discos como residente do Berghain desde o Dia Um, ele viu de tudo, viveu de tudo. Pelo meio, passou a segunda metade dos eighties em Nova Iorque, nas pistas do Paradise Garage e do The Loft, a ouvir e aprender com Larry Levan ou David Mancuso. Qualificações imbatíveis para descrever a evolução da nossa comunidade global, convenhamos. Comunidade. Eis uma palavra importante, por representar aquilo que a cultura de club começou por ser, e por advir de comunhão, o sentimento que Boris ainda hoje busca no que faz. No Paradise Garage, o que testemunhou foi uma comunidade de outsiders reunindo-se num espaço de segurança e aceitação, onde se podiam soltar inteiramente, ser loucos, dançar até o corpo pedir tréguas. E o que aprendeu e ainda põe em prática no Berghain ou nas festas Cocktail D´Amore foi que, se acreditas em algo, um disco, uma emoção, um momento, deves fazê-lo, repeti-lo se tiver de ser, para a mensagem passar, para que quem te ouve entenda a tua visão, para que quem dança contigo receba um pouco daquilo que viveste, para que uma noite seja uma experiência que levas para casa e podes sempre ir buscar ao baú para te fazer sorrir num dia cinzento. No meio do techno sério que toca, muitas vezes negro e viscoso, que se infiltra no nosso sistema, é frequente refulgirem os diamantes das suas escolhas inesperadas e corajosas, como o dia em que tocou o Bolero de Ravel no Berghain e pôr as pessoas a falar disso anos depois. É isto que faz mexer o “Boris de Berlim” passados tantos anos e vivida tanta coisa. Ele acredita no que faz, e se nós temos que acreditar em algo, porque não acreditarmos nele? From the early eighties dancing to Disco and Hi-NRG at Metropol, to his present as Berghain resident since Day One, he´s seen it all and lived it all. In the midst of that, he spent the latter half of the eighties in New York, on the dancefloor at Paradise Garage and The Loft, listening and learning from Larry Levan and David Mancuso. Admit it, unbeatable qualifications to describe the evolution of our global community.~ Comunnity. That´s an important word because it represents what club culture started off as being, and because it emanates from communion, the feeling Boris still strives for in what he does, to this day. At Paradise Garage, he witnessed a strong community of outcasts gathering in a safe and accepting place, where they could get loose, go crazy, and dance until their bodies could take no more. And what he learned there and still puts in practice, whether at Berghain or the Cocktail D´Amore parties was that, if you believe in a record, an emotion, a moment, you have to go for it, repeat it if you must, so that what you´re saying comes through, your vision is understood by people, and those who dance with you receive a bit of what you lived, and the night becomes a memorable experience that you take home with you and you can get back to when you need to smile in black days. Amidst the serious, often times dark and corrosive techno he plays and which infects our system, you´ll occasionally glimpse the shine of the diamonds making up his ballsy and unexpected choices, like the day he played Ravel´s Bolero at Berghain and got people talking about it for years after. That´s what makes “Boris from Berlin” tick after so many years and so many stories. He believes in what he does and if you got to believe in something, why not believe in him?
