French Kiss presents... são festas que acontecem em Brooklyn, no Good Room, programadas por Ana Fernandes. Em agosto acontecerá uma em Lisboa com Eric 'Dr Dunks' Duncan, Intergalactic Gary e Alex from Queens como convidados especiais. Sonja, Tiago e João Peste juntam-se a eles. Intergalactic Gary A cena da costa oeste Holandesa tem feeling, frescura e realness em doses iguais desde os tempos lendários das festas dos Unit Moebius e da Bunker. Intergalactic Gary também foi pioneiro desse movimento - e ainda carrega essa luz hoje, ao lado de luminários como I-F e a sua estação vital Intergalactic FM. Tudo começou para John Scheffer no princípio da década de 80, quando aprendeu a misturar discos, influenciado pelo Italo Disco que se podia ouvir nos melhores clubes de Haia. Na década seguinte começou a tocar nas afamadas squat parties da cidade, e a meio dos 90s já fazia uma residência semanal no La DS, onde cimentou a sua experiência a tocar house, garage e disco regularmente. Pela mesma altura começou a ser convidado regular de rádios piratas como a Trend FM ou a Radical Radio. Em '94 lança o seu primeiro maxi a solo como Silverstream, mas é em '98 que tudo muda, ao fundar com I-F a dupla de produção The Parallax Corporation, lançando faixas icónicas como 'Lift Off' ou a série Cocadisco na Viewlexx, a seminal editora-irmã da Murder Capital de I-F. Esta colaboração culminou num álbum conjunto editado no selo alemão Disko B. O final da década de 90 marcou a sua transição para o estatuto de DJ internacional (intergaláctico já era), uma honra mais do que merecida e que dura até hoje. Intergalactic Gary é recrutado regularmente pelos melhores clubes e festivais da Europa por ser um selector versátil, com um conhecimento profundo da herança de Detroit e dos seus mais importantes sub-produtos europeus - mas também por ser dono de um domínio técnico impressionante. Tudo com uma naturalidade que roça o mágico. \\ ENGLISH // The West coast Dutch scene has the feeling, the freshness and the realness in equal measures since the legendary times of the Unit Moebius parties and, of course, Bunker. Intergalactic Gary was also a pioneer of that movement - and still carries that torch to this day, alongside luminairies like I-F and his vital station Intergalactic FM. It al started for John Scheffer in the beginning of the 80s, when he learned to mix records, influenced by the Italo Disco gems that one could hear at The Hague's best clubs. In the following decade he started playing in the city's famed squat parties, and halfway through the 90s he bagged a weekly residency at La DS, where he cemented his experience by playing house, garage and disco regularly. Around the same time he started to be a regular at pirate radios like Trend FM or Radical Radio. In '94 he releases his first solo 12" as Silvestream, but it's in '98 that things start to look up, when he founds the dynamic duo The Parallax Corporation with I-F, releasing iconic tracks like 'Lift Off' or the Cocadisco series on Viwelexx, the seminal sister-label to I-F's Murder Capital. This collaboration culminates with a joint album released on German label Disko B. The end of the 90s saw him transition to International DJ status (the Intergalactic title was his already), a well-deserved honour that lasts to this day. Intergalactic Gary is regularly recruited by Europe's best clubs and festivals for his versatility as a selector, one who is deeply in touch with the Detroit heritage and its important European sub-products - but also for his impressive technique. All of this with an effortlessness that's nothing short of magic. Levantar o seu percurso e colaborações pode assim tornar-se no surfar de um autêntico fractal de artistas e editoras de relevo que definiram a Nova Iorque musical da última década - podíamos continuar a acrescentar referências, como as suas labels de edits C.O.M.B.I. ou Keep It Clear - mas Dr. Dunks tem mais do que apenas uma propensão fascinamente para estar sempre na esquina certa da inflexão das tendências musicais. Mais do que presciente, Eric Duncan é um fervoroso apaixonado por discos e aquilo que contêm; descobre, cultiva e recontextualiza incessantemente sem nunca atraiçoar a sua intuição para o groove perfeito. More than prescient, Eric Duncan is deeply passionate about records and what they encapsulate; he incessantly discovers, cultivates and gives them new context without ever betraying his intuition for the perfect groove. Lançou-se na aventura do som noutra zona do espectro, com guitarras, a malhar em bandas trash nos palcos de perdição de clubes como o Limelight ou o Tunnel mas, como adivinha o seu conterrâneo James Murphy em "Losing My Edge", rapidamente trocou tudo por um par de gira-discos. Foi uma noite com Jeff Mills que mudou a sua vida - junta-te ao clube, Alex - e logo se atirou à pesquisa, começando pelo princípio, claro: Derrick May, Ron Hardy e o tio Jeff, quando ainda era The Wizard. Alex diz-se tão inspirado por Jeff Mills como por Baudelaire, e é poesia que nos oferece quando cruza pérolas de estilos como techno, house, industrial, jak beat, new beat, ambient ou electro - muitas vezes com as mãos ocupadas por três ou quatro gira-disco em simultâneo. Alex conecta-se emocionalmente com a pista, levando-a consigo por uma jornada de estímulos que poucos conseguem criar como ele. O mesmo pendor narrativo, rico e desafiante irá em breve manifestar-se também na forma como gere a sua recem criada editora Fleurs Du Mal, com trabalhos agendados deCrimen Excepta, Upsetting Keys, Reade Truth, Jake Reif e do próprio Alex From Queens. Apolónia, onde terá suficientes poetas e uma casa de sonhos à altura da sua visão. \\ ENGLISH // The clue is in the name; Alex comes from the city that never sleeps - New York, of course - and he's a child of one of its largest boroughs, Queens. This area was named by English colonisers in the 17th century paying homage to Portugal's queen Catarina de Bragança. Now it's Alex's turn to add another chapter to the now historical romance between Lisbon and NYC. His sonic adventure started out in a different part of the spectrum, mauling away on guitars on the stages of clubs like the Limelight or the Tunnel but, as his fellow new yorker James Murphy once predicted in his song "Losing My Edge", he soon had to change it up for a pair of turntables. It was a Jeff Mills night that changed his life - join the club, Alex. After that he started researching, starting by the roots: Derrick May, Ron Hardy and uncle Jeff, when he was still The Wizard. As it should be. Soon after came the quest for black gold - vinyl, of course. Alex starts spinning locally, promoting his own parties named Capriccio and setting his dear New York on fire with shows by notable firestarters such as Juan Atkins, Claude Young, Martin Rev (R.I.P.), Traxx or Veronica Vasicka. The rise of his DJ profile followed suit, with Alex becoming a key-name in the new american dance music scene and cited by top players such as Tadd Millinix (JTC / Dabrye) as one of the best DJs he ever heard - comparable, in his opinion, to masters like Carlos Souffront or Traxx. Alex From Queens claims he gets as much inspiration from Jeff Mills as he does from Baudelaire, and it's poetry what he gives us when he combines gems techno, house, industrial, jakbeat, new beat, ambient or electro gems in his sets - often with his hands over three or four vinyl decks at a time. Alex connects emotionally with the dancefloor, taking it with him on a journey though thrills that few can create like he does. The same sense of narrative, substance and challenge will soon also manifest in the way he runs his recently started label Fleurs Du Mal, with scheduled releases by the likes of Crimen Excepta, Upsetting Keys, Reade Truth, Jake Reif and Alex himself.
