Jus-Ed

Jus-Ed

\\ ENGLISH //

Jus-Ed wasn't born yesterday; he's lived trough a lot and he makes no secret of that. He started to naturally flourish in a very musical household in Connecticut, with jazz-musicians as grandparents and lots of house parties - something that propelled him into a very precocious start as a DJ, at the tender age of 10, playing r&b, funk and soul. After that he would face a negative spiral that lasted about 15 years and included incarceration, reflection and self-discovery. This darker patch was, however, pregnant with its very opposite, and became a determining moment in Jus-Ed's (real name Edward McKeithen) road to redemption.

Armed with a new-found visionary spirit and decidedly underground musical ethics, Edward was now more than ready to grab the second chance offered to him by Vic Money - a DJ and local hero from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Together they went on to start the label Underground Quality, aimed at showcasing off-the-radar talent, and later becoming one of the most important institutions in house music's revitalisation of the second half of the 2000's. Through their imprint they have released career-defining works from artists such as Fred.P, DJ QU, Move D, Steffi and Jus-Ed himself, who has since built a rock-solid reputation as one of the main, new proponents of quality deep, elegant and honest house music.

As a DJ he opens up a window to his captivating, contemplative and dreamy universe. Jus-Ed combines a form of dance music that's both direct and sophisticated, firmly anchored in fantasies of the future. Highly synesthetic when played in the darkness of nightclubs, his music doesn't ever leave us without a friendly hand to hold on to, patiently guiding us towards somewhere better. Direct references to his sound could be the techno of Detroit, with its longing of the future, and also the raw drum-tracks of Chicago, with their immediate physical hit. This is real deep-house music, with the snapping sound of hardware gear and enough romance to warm up the heart.
