Ah, Monsieur Garnier, é tão bom tê-lo de volta! Já passou demasiado tempo, desde a última vez que nos visitou. Sabe, mesmo 10 anos depois, ainda há quem fale dessa noite, como se passasse uma lenda de boca em boca. Falam da sensação de caos controlado que tudo aquilo lhes provocou. De como foi sentir que um DJ nos consegue manter a noite toda na corda bamba com a imprevisibilidade e risco das suas escolhas, mas nunca nos deixa cair, nunca perde de vista o sentido para onde caminha, passo a passo. Foi vertiginoso e memorável, e quando no fim saímos das entranhas de Santa Apolónia para a luz, sentimo-nos como se pudessemos finalmente expirar, depois de horas de respiração cortada. Mas consigo é sempre assim, não é, Monsieur Garnier? Há mais de 20 anos que nos ajuda a criar memórias e nos habitua a tornar marcante aquilo que faz. Preparavámo-nos para sair de casa numa noite de sábado ao som do seu álbum ‘Shot In The Dark´. Corríamos o país de norte a sul em busca da próxima festa com a sua ‘X-Mix 2’ a rodar no carro. Aterrávamos em casa já de manhã com o CD2 da sua ‘Laboratoire Mix’ a embalar os nossos últimos delírios. Mas até os recém-chegados à musica de dança sabem o que são ´Crispy Bacon´, ´The Man With The Red Face´, ‘The Sound Of The Big Babou´. Já devia haver uma ala no Louvre para si. Afinal, fez a mais bela declaração de amor electrónica alguma vez feita à cidade de Paris, ‘Acid Eiffel´. Era o suficiente para se ter habituado a viver à sombra da bananeira, mas continuou a explorar e tocar música de todo o tipo, jazz, africana, sul-americana, até rock e rap. Agora voltou mais ao techno e house com ´La Home Box’, não foi? Bom, mas para si não há barreiras de estilos, você não mistura estilos, misturas cores, estados de espírito, emoções. E o sorriso que exibe sempre, próprio de quem se sente o homem mais feliz do mundo quando faz o que gosta, é o mesmo sorriso de alguém que estava na Hacienda em Manchester quando Mike Pickering tocou o primeiro disco de house music, é o sorriso que, entretendo-nos e educando-nos em igual medida, deixa em nós quando o ouvimos. Em 10 anos, tanta coisa mudou, Monsieur Garnier, mas o seu e o nosso espírito, o seu e nosso o amor pela música, permanecem iguais. We travelled the country from north to south in search of the next party with your ‘X-Mix 2´ booming in the car stereo. We crash-landed at home in the mornings with CD2 of your ‘Laboratoire Mix’ lulling our final deliriums. But even newcomers to dance music know what ´Crispy Bacon´, ´The Man With The Red Face´, ‘The Sound Of The Big Babou´ , are. There should be a hall in the Louvre for you. You did create, after all, the most beautiful electronic declaration of love to Paris, with ‘Acid Eiffel´. That should´ve been enough for you to rest on your laurels, but you kept on exploring and playing all kinds of music, jazz, african, latin, even rock and rap. But you came back beautifully to techno and house recently, with ´La Home Box’, right? Well, for you there´s no such thing as genre barriers anyway. And that smile you always have on, of someone who indeed feels like the happiest man on earth when he´s doing what he loves, that´s the same smile of someone who was at the Hacienda in Manchester when Mike Pickering dropped the first house record, it´s the smile that you, entertaining and educating equally, put on our faces when we listen to you.
