É muito difícil separar Serge da editora e loja de discos que construiu. E é impossível separar a música de dança de Serge. Ele cresceu a descobrir o acid house em 1988 e no mesmo ano já andava por detrás dos pratos. A Clone – primeiro editora, depois loja – nasce como tentativa de salvação de um dado tipo de música, a que ele gostava e tocava, de uma tendência forte (o chamado “gabba”) que assolava os Países Baixos. O mote era simples: cada disco da Clone teria de ser um disco que o próprio Serge quiser ter na sua colecção pessoal. Passados uns bons anitos, estamos em 2016 e Serge conseguiu sucesso mais que pleno. Vende discos em múltiplas sub-editoras, faz reedições, tem uma loja física, o respeito dos pares, um leque alargado de influências e uma agenda cheia. Sem grandes preocupações sobre a moda da semana ou o que de repente alguém acha que deve ser o esperado dele, sabemos que vamos mais uma vez receber lições do que na gíria se chamam “grandes malhas”, sejam House, sejam Techno, Disco, ou lá que nome acharem que se encaixa melhor. Porque Serge é um Senhor DJ, daqueles que sabe mesmo o que anda por cá a fazer e andará, por bom tempo. Ele faz parte do núcleo que contribuiu para engrandecer a profissão dos que fazem outros dançar e numa altura em que é fácil estarmos a minimizar alguns rindo de vídeos na internet, mais válido e produtivo é irmos valorizar quem merece. Without caring too much about what the week’s trend will be or whatever people expect from him, we’re sure we’ll be schooled in what some like to refer to as “bangin’ tunes”, be it House, Techno, Disco, or whatever name fits best. Because Serge is a proper DJ, one of those who really knows what he’s doing and who will be doing it for a long time. In an era where it’s easy for us to exist on social media complaining about phony artists, it’s much better to actually go out and support those who deserve it – and on the dancefloor.
