Multi-video installation of current and previous works of Suwan Kim, RV artist in residence from South Korea/ USA

SUWAN ABOUT EVENT:
Through incorporation of moving image, sound and performance, I create conditional structures to redefine characteristics of the body and its movements. These structures appearing in my art are wearable garments incorporated with the human body or exaggeratedly characterized and repetitive behaviors that are staged by the performers, causing them to move in limited and often abject ways. The figures, within their still or repetitive motion, transform into unidentified entities. They tremble and become suspended within forced restraint. The juxtaposition of the body and the structures create tension which visually constitutes inharmonious interaction between earth nature and the manmade architecture.
The movement and the documentation of this process with the addition of sound becomes a ceremony which refers to the performative and musical elements of formulaic rituals.

SUWAN SOBRE O EVENTO:
Através da incorporação da imagem em movimento com o som e a performance, crio estruturas que redefinem características do corpo e dos seus movimentos. Estas estruturas que aparecem no meu trabalho artístico são peças de vestuário incorporadas no corpo humano, exageradamente caracterizadas, representando comportamentos repetitivos, interpretados pelos artistas em palco, que fazem com que se movam num espaço limitado. As figuras, estejam elas paradas ou constantemente em movimento, transformam-se em entidades não identificáveis. Elas tremem e tornam-se suspensas dentro da restrição que formam forçosamente. A sobreposição do corpo e das estruturas cria uma tensão que, visualmente, constitui uma interacção desarmoniosa entre a natureza e a arquitectura feita pelo homem.
