O culto da anonimidade é uma característica fundamental do techno desde o seu aparecimento. Alguns artistas há, que parecem usar essa anonimidade mais como um artifício do que de forma sincera, mas é impossível duvidar da convicção dos suecos SHXCXCHCXSH na forma como o usam. Não é só o desconhecimento da identidade do duo, o não darem entrevistas, nem o uso de vestimentas encapuzadas para se esconderem. Vai ao ponto de usarem um nome que torma mais fácil chamar-lhes só “os impronunciáveis” (e procurá-los no Google?), algo extensível aos títulos da maioria das faixas, que tornam dizer aos nossos amigos o nome dos temas preferidos, num complexo exercício de trava-línguas. E no entanto, é possível adivinhar-lhes um sorriso matreiro nas faces obscurecidas pelos capuzes. A forma como a sua música, geralmente densa e sinistra, joga com as estruturas convencionais do techno, dá-nos pistas nesse sentido. A sua casa assombrada preferida é a editora Avian, do britânico Shifted, que lhes chama “aqueles suecos misteriosos” e que certamente viu neles almas-gémeas na abordagem que fazem ao lado mais negro do techno de ambientes industriais e contornos experimentais, e também ele detentor de uma veia sarcástica que escapa a muitos. Com especial incidência nos 3 álbuns lançados na Avian (dos quais o mais recente, o sibilante SsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSs, saíu agora mesmo), os ”Shhh-qualquer-coisa” desfilam techno resgatado das cavernas e de seguida mergulhado num pântano, com reverbs gasosos, melodias espectrais e vozes incorpóreas. A estreia entre nós era aguardada com alguma trepidação. O desafio que nos é proposto com este live-act é perceber o quão a sério se levam os SHXCXCHCXSH, e o enigma certamente será mais facilmente desvendado com a dança a ajudar o cérebro a funcionar. A certeza é a de que o faremos perante um dos mais singulares e necessário nomes do techno moderno. Some artists seem to use anonimity more as gimmick than with sincerity, but it´s impossible to doubt the conviction of swedes SHXCXCHCXSH in the way they use it. It´s not just the unknown identities of the duo, not giving interviews, or using cloaked vests to hide. It goes to the point of picking a name that makes it easier to just call them “the unpronounceables” (and what about Googling them?), which extends to the titles of most of their tracks, turning telling our friends about our favorite tunes, into a complex exercise in tongue-twisting. It is possible, however, to guess there´s a smirk in their hood-obscured faces. The way their music, usually dense and sinister, playfully challenges the standard structures of techno, gives some hints of that. Their favorite haunt is the Avian label, onwned by brit Shifted, who calls them “the mysterious swedes”, and who surely saw in them like-minded folks, through their similar approach to the darker side of techno, made of industrial atmospheres and experimental flourishes, though also bringing a sarcastic twist that many seem to miss. With special emphasis on the 3 albums released on Avian (the latter of which, the sibilant SsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSs, just came out),”Shhh-something” deliver techno rescued from a cave and then drowned in a swamp, with gaseous reverbs, spectral melodies and disembodied voices. Their debut amongst us has been awaited with trepidation. The challenge we´re proposed with their live-act is to understand how seriously SHXCXCHCXSH actually take themselves, and the enigma is surely easier to crack with dancing making our brains work harder. The only sure thing is that we´ll do so in the presence of one of the most singular and necessary names in modern techno. As unpronounceable as that name may be. - Nuno Mendonça
