Petre também se deixa conhecer por Pedro. E o mundo conheceu-o como parte de um núcleo duro de “carolas” que puseram a Roménia no mapa do House. De Chicago à Roménia vai um longo e improvável caminho, uma espécie de trilho do berço até a um local que, sem dúvida, lhe deu um novo fôlego. Não tanto um renascer, mas um renovar, inovar, e, porque não, reciclar. Este núcleo duro aliou Raresh e Rhadoo a Petre, donde nasceu uma editora – a [a:rpia:r] – e um trio para actuações a seis mãos, o RPR Soundsystem. Em estúdio, faz e inspira a fazer. Há que saber as fundações da música, diz, nem que essa fundação seja apenas um bombo sobre o qual se vão descobrindo padrões e criando algo muito próprio. Da música clássica, sorve um amor recente. E a complexidade nos seus temas nasce como se fosse sem esforço, detalhes para ouvir vezes sem conta, redescobrir. Imperdíveis álbuns e singles não só na editora própria como em selos como a Cadenza, Mule Musiq ou a portuguesa Pluie/Noir Recordings. Para a pista, a sua visão transpõe-se assente em primeiro lugar na exímia habilidade de, chamemos-lhe assim, “catador” de discos. No início das aventuras como DJ, viajava 24h de comboio até à loja de discos mais próxima. A paixão pelo vinil continuou, e a busca pelos discos perdidos algures, os lados B ignorados, o tema perfeito esquecido, também. Com um estilo altamente percussivo, onde a secção de ritmo é rainha, Petre comprova que não é preciso música excessivamente rápida nem cheia de artifícios cliché para ter pistas presas ao seu encanto. Petre also presents himself as Pedro. And the world got to know him as a part of a core of DJs and producers who helped put Romenia in the House Music map. From Chicago, its birthplace, to Romenia, the road is long, but leads to a place that, without a doubt, gave it a fresh breath. Not so much a rebirth, but a matter of renovation, innovation and, why not?, recycling. This core brought together Raresh, Rhadoo and Petre and gave birth to a label - [a:rpia:r] -, and a DJ trio, RPR Soundsystem. In the studio, he creates and inspires others to create. You have to know the foundations of music, he says, even if that foundation is just a kickdrum where upon you discover patterns and create your very own sound. For classical music, he has a recently found fondness. And the complexity in his own tracks seems effortless, with details to listen to over and over, rediscovering bits and pieces. Check them out on labels (asides from [a:rpia:r]) such as Cadenza, Mule Musiq, and the Portuguese Pluie/Noir Recordings. His DJ skills are honed firstly by his extraordinary ability to dig for records. In his teens, he’d travel 24 hours by train just to get to the nearest record store. His passion for vinyl lives on, as well as the search for lost forgotten records, ignored B-sides and the perfect track that lies overlooked somewhere. With a highly percussive style where the rhythm section prevails, Petre is proof that music doesn’t need to be excessively fast or full of clichéd gimmicks. Perfect hypnotism for hours and hours of a dancefloor voyage and contemplation – and what contemplation is more fun than the one you get to do dancing? Barac Da música, com a música, para a música. Não é muitas vezes que se encontra um DJ que diga não ter outros hobbies, interesses, distrações, mas Barac di-lo peremptoriamente. Um amor indiviso, uma história de imersão no que faz que é exemplo para qualquer um. Se a música é tanto para ele, como descreve a sua própria música? Em três palavra: iniciação, jornada, cura. Soa a misticismo, mas deixa também o aviso: cada um tem de experienciar as coisas por si, ninguém o pode explicar – temos de viver. Urge escutar então as criações do romeno, que já editou pela Rawax ou pela Pressure Trax, e dar o salto para o Lux de ouvidos abertos e espírito limpo para receber Barac atrás dos pratos. Dono e senhor de uma técnica formidável, não é incomum que tenha a tocar, ao mesmo tempo, 4 discos diferentes, esculpindo um resultado final que aproveita exactamente as partes que quer de cada um – algo tão incomum quanto belo. A certeza é a de estarmos a ouvir o esforço total do DJ posto em cada segundo, preocupado, seguro, e entregue à sua pista. House e Techno onde a palavra “groove” nos salta à primeira escuta, desafiando noções comuns e surpreendendo a cada guinada do caminho onde vamos sendo levados. Fácil de perceber porque também ele atingiu o estatuto de DJ de culto, e, mais importante, o vai mantendo. Isso de descansar à sombra dos louros não é com ele. A história ainda só está a começar. - Inês Duarte From music, with music, for music. It’s uncommon to find a DJ who says he hasn’t got any other hobbies, interests or distractions, but Barac announces it as if proudly. Undivided love, a history of immersion in what he does which sets an example for anyone. If music means so much to him, how does he himself describe it? Three words: initiation, journey, healing. As mystical sounding as it may be, he also leaves a warning: each person must experience music for themselves, it cannot be explained by others – it must be lived. No better reason, then, to listen to his creations (he has put out tracks on labels such as Rawax and Pressure Trax) and come over to Lux with open ears and minds to welcome Barac behind the decks. Possessing a truly incredible technique, it’s not rare to find him playing four records at the same time, sculpting a final result that uses exactly the parts he wants from each one, and is as unique as beautiful. His effort is whole, dedicating himself every second of playing to his craft. House and Techno that screams “groove” but defies standards, surprising at each turn along the path he takes us. It’s easy to see how he got his cult status but, most importantly, why he keeps it – not being one to rest on his laurels. His history is still in the making. eli verveine Pode ser um exercício interessante, imaginar os diálogos internos que ocorrem na cabeça de um DJ, enquanto actuam. Haverá os calculistas e os instintivos, existirão discordâncias e acordos, mas já muitos clubbers se terão perguntado “o que a levou a escolher este disco agora?”. Não lendo mentes, podemos apesar de tudo adivinhar que Eli Verveine pensa muito, e bem, antes de qualquer faixa que passa. Outra coisa que poderemos supor é que há chocolates na sua Suíça natal que talvez tenham outros ingredientes menos comuns além do cacau. O que ela faz com as suas escolhas conhecedoras de house, minimal e techno é expansivo, reflectido e muito aditivo, e sempre com uma classe só atingível por predestinados. Eli Verveine confessa-se adepta de sets ao pôr do sol ou principalmente ao nascer do sol e durante manhãs que, seguramente, faz parecer infinitas, mas esse é um feeling que já comprovou largamente ser capaz de transpôr para qualquer momento de uma celebração, calejada que é em aparições em clubs como o Robert Johnson ou o Harry Klein, depois de anos de residência na DachKantine da sua amada Zurique. Escutas a sets como o brilhante podcast que fez em tempos para o Resident Advisor ou lançamentos na sua label Tardis revelam uma artista capaz de saltar de era em era e estilo em estilo com a fluidez e certeza de um regato a correr pelos Alpes Suíços. O RA e o Lux convidam-vos conhecer a absorver a insustentável leveza de Eli. A leveza de quem é capaz de suspender o tempo até que este não importe e o momento passe a ser tudo. There´s the calculated and the instinctive, there will be discussions and agreements, but many clubbers have found themselves wandering “what made her pick this record now?” We´re not mind readers, but we can still guess that Eli Verveine thinks a lot about this, and does it well, before each track she plays. Another thing we can suppose is that there are chocolates made in her country of Switzerland that might have less common ingredients beyond cocoa. What she does with her knowledgeable choices in house, minimal and techno is expansive, thoughtful and utterly addictive, and always with a class only at the reach of the naturals. Eli Verveine confesses she´s a fan of sunset or sunrise sets, and especially during the mornings, which she surely can make them feel like infinity, but that´s a feeling which she has largely proven herself to be able to transpose to any time of a celebration, experimented as she is in appearances at clubs like Harry Klein or Robert Johnson, after years of being a resident of DachKantine at her beloved Zurich. Listening to sets like her brilliant podcast for Resident Advisor, not long ago, or the releases on her Tardis label, reveal an artist able to transverse eras and styles with the fluidity and assuredness of a water stream flowing down the Swiss Alps. RA and Lux invite you to absorb the unbearable lightness of Eli. The lightness of someone who has a gift of suspending time like it doesn´t matter and make the moment become everything.
