EROL ALKAN

EROL ALKAN

“The Underground is not amateur.”
The serious affirmation comes from this night’s main star: Erol Alkan. It can – and should – be a starting point of some healthy discussions: what is, after all, this so called “underground”? Does it exist? What is it, exactly? And why is not amateur? We’re leaving the questions open, but presenting some insight into the mind of the man who helped launch Daniel Avery’s career, produced hit bands Franz Ferdinand and Klaxons, and has remixed giants such as Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, MGMT or Hot Chip.
An impressive and extensive list of feats – abridged here – for someone who carries the weight of having helped shaped last decade’s dance music and making it reach audiences which might have not imagined themselves, until then, dancing for hours on end in dark dancefloors where the tunes don’t really have gaps in-between. And for those who were already there, on those dancefloors, he brought a fresh, attitude-driven and energic sound, with some prime examples of this being released on Phantasy, the label he started in 2007. The new Electro wave has matured and reached 2016 mixed with House, and Techno, and still leaving us breathless. Yes, Erol still keeps kids dancing. And grown ups, too.
