Valerá a pena referir o nome da faixa que o tornou um nome corrente nas conversas sobre o estilo, nos últimos tempos? Podemos fazê-lo, mas mais importante é fazer notar que este estrondo não nasceu de uma combustâo espontânea a partir no nada. Sob a égide de Nina Kraviz e do seu projecto editorial Trip, o jovem islandês Bjarki irrompeu, é certo, mais com a fúria e efervescência de um géiser, do que com o passo comedido de um glaciar, mas com igual inexorabilidade e naturalidade de ambos, fruto de um techno certeiro e de uma loucura controlada, umas vezes sério, outras vezes de uma jovialidade mal contida, a meio caminho entre a rave e a abstração pura e muita vontade de estudar o estilo. Kraviz reconheceu cedo esta jóia nórdica ainda em fase de polimento e polvilhou os seus sets e lançamentos com faixas do inslandês, e vai agora chegando o momento desta torrente de criatividade ir revelando por si mesmo, e por mérito próprio, o filão de armas para a pista de dança que é Bjarki, que já é uma espécie de estrela da companhia na Trip. Este prodígio já equiparou o seu percurso, à luta de alguém que está em águas profundas, a tentar lutar, de forma controlada, para emergir à superfície. Bjarki dá assim à costa no Lux, enchendo o peito de ar para exclamar o seu nome e cravá-lo de forma indelével na nossa memória colectiva. Don Williams - Official_Page https://soundcloud.com/donwilliamsofficial Se com Mauno Koivisto e Bjarki, nos deparamos com dois nomes em afirmação meteórica no panorama do techno, com Don Williams encontramos um exemplo daquela expressão agora tão em voga, de crescimento sustentado. O seu nome é ainda uma novidade para muitos, mas a sua carreira já leva mais de 15 anos, como produtor, DJ e fundador de selos como a Mojuba e a A.R.T.less, cujos discos costumam figurar nas playlists de DJs que gostam de escavar bem fundo para nos trazer o que de mais fresco e substancial se faz, do deep-house ao techno mais Detroitiano ou mais mentalista. E aqui não há como não referir, de entre eles, Rodhad. Um apreciador declarado de Williams, o techno-viking germânico passou de fã a seu mecenas, alistando-o nas fileiras da sua Dystopian, tanto a nível de management como de edição. Com tamanha marca a sustentá-lo, Don Williams assumiu finalmente um lugar que já devia ser seu por direito. Seguidor convicto da máxima “less is more”, é um explorador do potencial creativo de uma ideia, que por muito simples que pareça à superfície, revela o seu poder e potencial pleno quando aplicada a uma pista em ponto de rebuçado, na boa tradição de nomes como Robert Hood e Jeff Mills. Numa RUSH que ambiciona explicar a importância de se ser fiel a uma visão, Don Williams é paixão em estado puro. Não sabemos se foi por causa de afirmações como esta, que um jovem viseense de nome Pedro Coelho, resolveu adoptar tão obscuro mas significativo nome artístico, mas a sua ainda nascente vida musical parece encaixar nesta máxima. Mauno Koivisto descobre, divulga, faz e passa música, aparentemente de forma despreocupada sobre onde vai chegar e muito mais interessado no processo, mesmo que o leve por caminhos tortuosos. Tanto assim é, que se tem apresentado sob entidades diversas: além de Mauno Koivisto, também há o místico Jonsson Toll e a promíscua Cindy, vozes dos muitos e vastos mundos musicais que habitam a mente de Pedro, mundos esses essencialmente dominados pelo techno, mas também habitados pelo seu interesse pelo electro, house e até punk e metal. Pedro é uma mente inquisitiva de curiosidade insaciável, que alia a um talento inato, cujo potencial se vai revelando em edições em selos nacionais como a Reaktivate, Elements e Extended Records, bem como editoras estrangeiras como a Vent, onde já tem um EP e uma remistura (ambos em vinil, como Cindy), o que já o levou a ser, não o primeiro, mas talvez o mais jovem português a alguma vez actuar no fundamental Tresor, em Berlim, no passado mês de Dezembro, com apenas 20 anos. A sua chegada ao cartaz do Lux é por isso um encontro há muito marcado com o seu próprio destino. Não se sabia quando aconteceria, mas era certo que tinha de acontecer. Mauno Koivisto e as muitas vozes na sua cabeça, exigem a nossa atenção. Do we need to tell you what was the track that made him a household name in conversations about the genre lately? We could, but it´s way more important to make you notice that this bang didn´t occur, from nothing, like a spontanous combustion. Under the wing of Nina Kraviz and her Trip label project, young Icelander Bjarki has erupted, for sure, more with the fury and efervescence of a geyser, than with the measured pace than a glacier, but with equal inexorability and naturality, resulting from a striking techno style and controlled insanity, sometimes serious, other times with barely contained youthfulness, halfway between the rave and pure abstraction, and a huge willingness to study the style. Kraviz soon recognized this nordic jewel yet to be polished, and has peppered her sets and releases with the Icelander´s tracks, and it´s now the moment for this torrent of creativity to reveal itself on his own through its inherent merit, as the motherlode of dancefloor weapons that he is, becoming a sort of label star of the Trip family. This prodigy has likened his journey to the struggle of someone who is still in deep waters, struggling to reach, in a controlled fashion, to the surface. And that´s how Bjarki emerges at Lux, filling his lungs with air to exclaim his name and thus branding it indelebly in our colective memory. DON WILLIAMS If, with Mauno Koivisto and Bjarki, we´re faced with two names in meteorica rise in the techno paorama, with Don Williams we find an example of that so current expression, of sustained growth. His name might still be news to many, but his career already dates back to more than 15 years, as a producer, DJ and founder of renowned labels like Mojuba and A.R.T.less, whose records usually take place on the playlists of those DJs willing to dig deeper into the freshest and most substantial strains of deep-house and techno, either more Detroit-flavored, or of a more mentalist undercurrent. And there´s no way to avoid it, and not mention Rodhad amongst those DJs. A confessed loyal follower of Williams´ work, the german techno-viking went from fan to patron, enlisting him into the Dystopian crew, both as manager and record label. With such a brand supporting him, Don Williams finally ocupied his rightful spot in the scene. A firm believer in the “less is more” notion, he is an avid explorer of the creative potential of an idea, which, as simple as it may seem on the surface, reveals it´s true power and potential when applied to a boiling dancefloor, following the hallowed tradition of names like Robert Hood and Jeff Mills. Placed in a RUSH line-up which fully intends to demonstrate the importance of staying true to a vision, Don Williams is passion in it´s purest form. MAUNO KOIVISTO “The movement is more important than it´s goal”; so said Mauno Koivisto, maybe the most important Finnish politician of the 20th century. What lead a young kid from Viseu, Pedro Coelho, to adopt such an obscure but significant artistic name, wer´re not sure, but his still nascent life in music seems to fit this motto. Mauno Koivisto discovers, reveals, makes and plays music, in a way seemingly unpreocupied with where he´ll go and much more interested in the process itself, even if it leads him down tortuous paths. So much so, that he has presented himself under several identities: aside from Mauno Koivisto, there´s also the mystical Jonsson Toll and the promiscuous Cindy, voices of the many voices and vast musical worlds which inhabit Pedro´s mind, worlds essentally dominated by techno, but also containing house, electro and even punk and metal. Pedro has an inquisitive mind of insatiable curiosity, which he meshes with natural talent, and whose potential has been revealing itself through releases in national stables like Reaktivate, Elements and Extended Records, but also foreign labels like Vent, where he already has an EP and a remix (both released in vinyl format, as Cindy), which have already made him, not the first, but probably the youngest portuguese to have ever performed at the foundational Tresor club in Berlin, last December, at only 20 years old. His arrival at a Lux line-up is, as such, a date set with his own destiny a long time ago. You didn´t know when it would happen, but you were certain it had to happen.
