NASA Specialist Mamta Patel Nagaraja in Portugal

NASA specialist Mamta Patel Nagaraja will be in Portugal on April 4-11 to talk about “Space Exploration” and the Women@NASA program with an emphasis on the study of math and technology.

During her visit, Dr. Nagaraja will give public talks at several Portuguese institutions, including the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa in Caparica, the Planetário da Ciência Viva in Sintra, the Universidade de Aveiro,and the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto. Dr. Nagaraja currently works at NASA, managing the Agency-wide Women@NASA program, training astronauts, and working as a flight controller in the Mission Control Center. Recently, Mamta received one of the 120 interview slots for the next astronaut candidate selection from an initial pool of over 6,000 applicants. In the community, Dr. Nagaraja serves on the board of directors for the Women in Aerospace organization and co-founded a trust fund for the Shastri School for the Deaf in Bangalore, India. Mamta holds a Bachelor of Science in aerospace engineering from Texas A&M University, a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Doctor of Philosophy in biomedical engineering from Georgia Tech and Emory University.
