Há décadas que as grandes festas se fazem juntando ingredientes simples: bons DJs, bons sistemas de som, público ávido. Assim, como se fosse simples. E nesta noite, neste sábado de Dezembro, não há dúvidas de estarem reunidas todas as condições. O personagem principal da noite é um dos principais personagens da House Music, pura e dura, mas tão diversa quanto una. Chez Damier, natural de Chicago. Chez Damier podia ter o seu nome inscrito no dicionário como sinónimo de House, ou de Deep House se quisermos ser um bocadinho mais específicos (mas arriscando-nos a ser demasiado redutores). Essa coisa de chamar “incontornáveis” aos artistas já se tornou um lugar comum, mas neste caso não podemos passar por cima da palavra. Começou a misturar no fim dos anos 80, junto a Frankie Knukles e Kevin Saunderson. Em actividade de estúdio em nome próprio desde 1992, Anthony Pearson – Chez – assinou alguns dos discos que os veteranos continuam a tocar insistentemente e os novatos descobrem, uma e outra vez, deliciando-se como se tivessem encontrado o hit do ano. Co-produziu para os Inner City e foi, até 1996, dono da lendária editora Prescription, juntamente com Ron Trent (trabalho para casa: ouvir algumas colaborações do duo, como “Don’t Try It” ou ”Choice”). Depois, continuou a gerir – até aos dias de hoje – a sua própria Balance, onde podemos encontrar desde Brawther até ao português Jorge Caiado. Nunca se tendo sentado à sombra da bananeira gozando os louros e fama, Chez Damier representa, aqui e em 2015, o House intemporal, com alma, com ritmo, com melodia e sentido, mas apontado à pista de dança - a provar que na subtileza está, muitas vezes, o ganho. Podíamos dizer que vai ser uma aula de história, mas íamos estar errados. Será uma lição, sim, em como passado e presente se unem para definir um futuro. É uma honra recebê-lo. Será um prazer dançá-lo. The key player for the night is one of House Music’s main characters: pure House, but as diverse as it is unified. Chez Damier, from Chicago. Chez Damier could have his name in the dictionary as a synonym of House, or Deep House – if we want to be a little more specific, but risking the fact that the term is too reductive. He started mixing records in the 80s. playing alongside Kevin Saunderson and Frankie Knuckles, even. Releasing records in his own name since 1992, Anthony Pearson – Chez – has made some of the timeless tracks that veterans insist on playing, and rookies discover again and again, getting excited like they have just struck gold. He co-produced for Inner City and was, until 1996, the owner of the legendary Prescription label, along with Ron Trent (homework: go check out some of the duo’s tracks such as “Choice” or “Don’t Try It”). After that, he continued running his own Balance label, where we can find music from artists such as Brawther or Jorge Caiado. Never one to sit resting on his own laurels, Chez Damier is, here in 2015, a symbol of timeless House, full of soul, rhythm, melody and a sense of purpose, but aiming for the dancefloor nonetheless – proving that many times, subtlety ultimately wins. We could say that his set will be a history lesson, but we’d be wrong. It’ll be a lesson, yes, in how to bring together past and present to show us a path to the future.
