Aos 17m 30s, ao ser posto perante um vídeo de uma sua feroz actuação como parte do line-up original da Underground Resistance, com “Mad” Mike Banks e Jeff Mills, Hood explica que o Techno é uma revolução, é música que se sente abençoado por poder expressar e assim tornar o mundo mais belo. “Mais do que uma bênção, é um privilégio”. A voz falta-lhe. E Robert Hood chora. É um momento signifcativo da maneira como um miúdo negro de Detroit, que veio do nada e nada tinha, se entregou de alma e espírito, a um movimento que ajudou a salvar-lhe a vida. E desde esse momento até hoje, Robert Hood tenta servir-nos, mais do que música, alimento espiritual. A sua obra não pretende só deixar a pista de mãos no ar, é acima de tudo feita para aquele tipo, que está sozinho lá bem ao fundo do club, perder a cabeça. Quando Hood esteve no Lux em 2014, houve disso tudo. Houve mãos no ar. Houve quem perdesse a cabeça. Houve quem chorasse. Tal e qual o que acontece nos serviços religiosos em que Hood tanto participa na sua vida além-música, ele que equipara o techno ao gospel, dada a essência espiritual de ambos que, movida a bateria e linhas de baixo, se manifesta como se algo superior, chame-se Espírito Santo ou o que quiserem, se movesse entre nós. Se quisermos ser objectivos, podemos dizer que esperamos uma sessão de house e techno com tanto de Kraftwerk, Soft Cell e Depeche Mode, como de James Brown, Aretha Franklin e Sly & The Family Stone. Uma lição do pai do techno minimal e de um pregador da mensagem do house. Mas no fundo sabemos que muito do que nos aprestamos a viver será indizível e inexplicável. At 17m30s, after watching a video of a fierce performance of his as part of the original Underground Resistance line-up (with “Mad” Mike Banks and Jeff Mills), Hood explains how techno is a revolution, music that he feels blessed to be able to express and, through it, beautify the world. “More than a blessing, it´s a privilege!”. His voice fails him. And Robert Hood cries. It´s a very telling moment of how a black kid from Detroit, who came from nothing and had nothing, put his whole soul and spirit into a movement which helped save his life. And from then until now Robert Hood has tried to serve us, not only music, but spiritual food. His work is made not just to make the floor go crazy, he´s doing so that the guy alone in the back of the club, loses it. When Hood was at Lux in 2014, it was all that. There were hands in the air and a floor going crazy. There was that guy alone at the back losing it. And there were people with tears in their eyes. Sort of like a religious service like those in which Hood participates in his life beyond music, and that´s why he seems similarities between techno and the gospel, there´s a spiritual essence to both, moved by drums and basslines, which manifests as if something bigger than us, call it the Holy Ghost or what you wish, was moving amongst us. Trying to be objective, we can tell you to expect a techno and house session with as much of Kraftwerk, Depeche and Soft Cell, as of James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Sly & The Family Stone. A lesson from the father of minimal techno and a messenger of the gospel of house. But we know that much of what we´ll experience is unspeakable and unexplainable.
