Mitchell Rose says that the function of art is to sensitize people to their world. A frame identifies its content as art, as “hyperlife.” This frame—whether a proscenium arch or
a rectangle of projected image—declares to the spectator, “The contents herein are special. Look within yourself and identify the specialness.” This life-quickening plea — to look within — has always prompted in the director’s work to employ a palette of the commonplace, to use elements that the viewer recognizes in his own life. He is interested
in presenting the known, then tilting it askew. He seeks to deconstruct the familiar, forcing viewers to reconsider some of their fundamental assumptions, their own “frames” of reference. In this Masterclass examples of his work will be shown and the tilting of the frame that attempts to make see the commonplace from a different perspective will be discussed. Also, the recent explorations of the technique of “Hyper-Matchcutting” and its effect of creating a sense of equalization will be approached.

excepcionalidade”. Este pensamento sobre a vida — olhar para dentro — sempre levou, no trabalho do realizador, a usar uma paleta do lugar-comum, elementos que o espectador reconhece na sua própria vida. Está interessado em apresentar o conhecido e depois inclinar-se para o desconhecido. Procura desconstruir o familiar, obrigando os espectadores a reconsiderar algumas das suas premissas fundamentais, os seus próprios quadros de referência. Nesta Masterclass, o realizador mostrará exemplos do seu trabalho e discutirá a inclinação do enquadramento que tenta fazer ver o lugarcomum de uma perspectiva diferente. Falará ainda sobre as explorações recentes da técnica de “Hyper-Matchcutting “ e o efeito de criar um senso de equalização.
