Come join us after work for an hour of creative writing practice focused on idea generation, finding your written voice, and building your confidence. Perhaps you have a novel buried down deep itching to get out, maybe you love poetry but have felt unsure of how to start, or it could be that you are just looking for a fun way to stretch your creativity muscles or to expand your vocabulary. There is room for everyone! This club will involve fresh and fun exercises each week that offer you the opportunity to think differently, approach ideas from new angles, and hone your craft. While the instruction will be in English, you are free to write in whatever languages you choose. English will be the ‘Lingua Franca’ of our sessions, in the sense that we will use English for instructions and discussion. However, do not be dissuaded from participating if you don’t feel confident writing in English. You can write in whatever language you choose This is intended as an informal, relaxed, fun activity.

Larissa Stutterheim is a Canadian who has recently moved from The Netherlands, where she lived for a decade, to the beautiful Minho region of Portugal. Back in Canada and the Netherlands, she worked for close to twenty years as an English language and literature teacher in the secondary school classroom. She also has a Masters degree in English literature, and has long been an appreciator of the written word in its many forms. Here, in Portugal, she has shifted her focus to ceramics and jewellery-making, but she remains very much connected to one of her favourite aspects of teaching- helping folks find their voice, use their imagination, and develop their craft through creative writing.
