LUAR ~ organic dance party

Luar is late-night dance party, with an analogue sound system, aiming to create space for dancers and music lovers. While dance music can certainly be a way to let go, we also seek to approach music as a medium for communication and questioning. Inspired by free parties, sound system collectives, and queer dancefloors, the goal is to create a space that many people deserve but often feel unrepresented in. Luar was born out of this need, refocusing on one of the central roles and core principles of dance music.

In a time when so many systems set rigid structures, imposing hierarchy and dominant narratives, we want to create a night that challenges this and resists any form of oppression. We reject the idea of promoting one mindset, so we can make space for an anarchic way of exploring and celebrating. We aim to do something meaningful and on goodwill, as a sort of response to the lack of space many of us have.

Consent and respect are the foundations of interaction here - whether on the dancefloor or in conversation. If you can’t accept a no at the door, what are you going to do when you’re told no inside the party? Inspired by practices from queer nightlife, we reserve the right to reject people at the door without explanation. This is not a science, apologies in advance if we make mistakes sometimes. If you're not part of these communities, you are still welcome, but please be mindful of how you take up space.

Our dancefloor hopes to communicate all these ideas and become a place where people feel invited to celebrate their identities, through music and dance.
