CORONAS IN THE SKY Not a Manifesto! an Essay on Afrofuturism and Liberation by Melissa Rodrigues Exhibition Opening: 24th September till the 2nd of October - 17.00 / 21.00 Wednesday - Saturday 15:00 / 19:00 SYNOPSIS (ENG) After 4 days in Berlin and walking a 20 kilos suitcase through metro lines, buses, streets, stairs, an empty airport and a ghost plane, I return home, to the one where I live in the last years. Outside there is silence and the sound of sirens shapes the space once inhabited by a city. This is the place and the time where I exist today and from where I speak. Being in artistic residency in the midst of a pandemic it’s a creative delirium and a constant attempt to connect with the surrounding reality. Out there the world revolves. The next great crisis approaches silently and cruelly devastating lives already marked by racial, gender and social inequality. Everything is connected. Between texts, books, articles, images, a performance is being materialized. It’s a poem, an essay. The images emerge on a dark background in contrast to the light that radiates from the Coronas pointed at the Sky, the finger stirs in the colonial wound, the power is questioned and she (I/We) dance(s) frenetically. SINOPSE (PT) Após 4 dias em Berlim, caminhar com uma mala de 20 quilos por linhas de metro, autocarros, ruas, escadas, um aeroporto vazio e um avião fantasma, volto a casa, para aquela onde vivi nos últimos anos. Lá fora há silêncio e o som das sirenes molda o espaço outrora habitado por uma cidade. Este é o lugar e o tempo em que existo hoje e de onde falo. Estar em residência artística no meio de uma pandemia é um delírio criativo e uma tentativa constante de (re)conexão com a realidade envolvente. Lá fora o mundo gira. A próxima grande crise aproxima-se silenciosa e cruel devastando vidas já antes marcadas pela desigualdade racial, de género, social e económica. Está tudo ligado. Entre textos, livros, artigos, imagens, uma performance materializa-se, toma forma, é corpo. É um poema, um ensaio. As imagens emergem sobre um fundo escuro em contraste com a luz que irradia das Coronas apontadas para o céu, o dedo mexe na ferida colonial, o poder é questionado e ela (Eu/Nós) dança(mos) freneticamente.
