EM OBRAS – Laboratório Experimental O laboratório experimental EM OBRAS é um programa educativo na área das artes visuais dirigido para estudantes, artistas e outros agentes culturais em início de carreira, a decorrer na Zaratan durante 15 dias em Outubro-Novembro de 2021. Pretende-se incentivar a atividade dos emergentes, apetrechando-os de meios de trabalho para a produção nas áreas das artes visuais e dos novos médias, e gerar uma oportunidade para que os participantes possam testar as suas pesquisas e práticas artísticas num ambiente comunitário. A Zaratan- Arte Contemporânea coloca-se no filão da tradição dos espaços dirigidos por artistas. Historicamente, os artistas têm-se especializado em identificar necessidades culturais e disponibiliza-las através da criação de estruturas independentes. Destacado dos métodos tradicionais de ensino, o laboratório oferece uma experiência alternativa que privilegia a prática, a improvisação, o debate e o crescimento. O curso estrutura-se em 15 dias de trabalho coletivo com um conjunto de 10 participantes e 7 formadores: João Fonte Santa, José Chaves, Isobel Atacus. Gemma Noris, Nuno Direitinho, Susana Borges e Vasco Costa. Os primeiros 10 dias do laboratório propõem momentos de reflexão, partilha e debate, com a participação ativa de outros intervenientes convidados pela Zaratan. Em conjunto com os formadores os participantes desenvolvem atividades práticas com o objetivo de aprofundar os seus conhecimentos na área das artes visuais e facilitar o diálogo entre os envolvidos e o meio envolvente. Durante a última semana do laboratório, o espaço da galeria da Zaratan - Arte Contemporânea estará aberto ao público e transformar-se-á no palco dos participantes, que poderão preencher o espaço físico com pensamento e produções transversais: individuais e coletivas, materiais e efémeras. Formado em Escultura na Escola Superior de Arte e Design nas Caldas da Rainha e Mestre em Desenho e Técnicas de Impressão pela Faculdade de Belas Artes do Porto. Expõe com regularidade desde o ano 2000. Trabalha essencialmente em projetos de Escultura, Instalação e Cenografia. O seu trabalho tem uma amplitude que é ressonante com a herança que vem da “arte povera" até a do “minimalismo”. É crítico e indicador de tendências sociais, estigmáticas e poéticas acidentais. NUNO DIREITINHO (1981, Lisboa) vive e trabalha em Lisboa. Realizou mestrado em Fine Art Media na Slade School of Art, UCL Londres (2014) e licenciatura em Fine Art Photography na Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow (2011) Exposições recentes incluem: ‘Future Nothing’ - Zaratan Arte Contemporânea (2020, Lisboa); ’I’m in the bath where are you?’ - The Icing Room (2019, Londres); ’All Things Considered’ - Shed (2018, Frauenfeld); ‘We are All Lichens Now’ - Zaratan Arte Contemporânea (2016, Lisboa); ‘Cornerstone’ - APT Gallery (2015, Londres); ‘Get in Lane’ - Catalyst Arts (2015, Belfast) e ‘Open Cube’ - White Cube (2013, Londres). JOÃO FONTE SANTA estudou Pintura na Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade Clássica de Lisboa. Começou por se dedicar à produção de banda-desenhada underground no contexto do surgimento de fanzines. Lentamente, contudo, o seu trabalho afirmar-se-ia no campo da pintura. Trabalhando a partir de um extenso fundo de imagens e referências de cultura pop, edificaria uma obra que tem tanto de visualmente atraente como de pertinente no modo como apresenta uma visão do mundo particularmente crítica. Expõe regularmente desde meados dos anos 90. ISOBEL ATACUS é uma artista visual britanica, vive entre Londres e Lisboa. O seu trabalho move-se entre escultura, instalação e texto, explorando o conceito de “confim” enquanto o local da experiência sensível. A sua prática relaciona-se com as dimensões materiais, físicas, poéticas e políticas da fronteira, para levantar questões sobre a construção do trabalho artístico dentro do discurso e da prática da arte contemporânea. Sobre estas temáticas está a desenvolver o seu projeto de pesquisa de doutorado entre a Slade School of Fine Art, UCL e o King's College London. Isobel fundou o espaço do projeto the icing room em Londres e é curadora de um ciclo multimédia na Zaratan. SUSANA LOPES BORGES Natural de Caldas da Rainha, vive e trabalha em Lisboa Licenciada em Escultura na Escola Superior Artes e Design das Caldas da Rainha 2008, Mestre em Filosofia especialização em Estética na Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas 2011. Neste momento em pausa o Doutoramento de Belas Artes especialização em Instalação na Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa. Expõe regularmente desde 2008. A sua prática utiliza diferentes média (fotografia, vídeo, escultura, ready made, motores, entre outros) na construção de trabalhos instalativos, muitas vezes pensados numa perspectiva site-specific. GEMMA NORIS (1986, Brescia) é fundadora e diretora artística da Zaratan. Licenciou-se em Pintura na Faculdade de Belas Artes de Brera, em Milão (2010) e obteve um mestrado em Arte Multimédia na FBAUL (2014). O seu trabalho opõe-se a conexão entre a arte e a permanência, e mexe-se em direção às práticas colaborativas de intervenção. Interessa-se por práticas auto-geridas de criação e produção artística. Desde 2012, colabora com vários projetos independentes e geridos por artistas na Europa. JOSÉ CHAVES (1982, Lisboa) vive e trabalha em Lisboa. Licenciou-se em Publicidade e Marketing na Escola Superior de Comunicação Social de Lisboa e obteve um mestrado em Arte Multimédia na FBAUL. Em 2014 fundou a Zaratan com um coletivo de artistas, e desde então coordena as atividades da associação. O seu trabalho incorpora várias linguagens artísticas, tais como composições de música, cinema, documentário e videoarte. Esta intersecção permite-lhe criar o seu próprio corpo de obras, que explora as imagens audiovisuais e os seus pós-multi-efeitos. Participou em festivais, residências e exposições em todo o mundo. [///English Version\\\] EM OBRAS - Experimental Laboratory The experimental laboratory EM OBRAS (“WORK IN PROGRESS”) is an educational program in visual arts aimed at students, artists and other cultural agents at the beginning of their career, taking place at Zaratan for 15 days in October-November 2021. It is intended to encourage the activity of emerging, equipping them with means of work for production in the areas of visual arts and new media, and generate an opportunity for participants to test their research and artistic practices in a community environment. Zaratan-Arte Contemporânea is part of the tradition of spaces directed by artists. Historically, artists have specialized in identifying cultural needs and making them available through the creation of independent structures. Detached from traditional teaching methods, the laboratory offers an alternative experience that emphasizes practice, improvisation, debate and growth. The course is structured in 15 days of collective work with a group of 10 participants and 7 trainers: João Fonte Santa, José Chaves, Isobel Atacus. Gemma Noris, Nuno Direitinho, Susana Borges and Vasco Costa. The first 10 days of the laboratory offer moments of reflection, sharing and debate, with the active participation of other participants invited by Zaratan. Together with the trainers, the participants develop practical activities with the aim of deepening their knowledge in the field of visual arts and facilitating dialogue between those involved and the environment. During the last week of the workshop, the gallery space of Zaratan - Arte Contemporânea will be open to the public and will become the stage for the participants, who will be able to fill the physical space with thought and transversal productions: individual and collective, material and ephemeral . He works mainly with Sculpture, Installation and Scenography projects. His work has a breadth that is resonant with the heritage that comes from “arte povera” to that of “minimalism.” He is critical and an indicator of accidental poetic, stigmatic and social trends. JOÃO FONTE SANTA studied Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Classic University of Lisbon. He started by dedicating himself to underground comic book production in the context of the emergence of fanzines. Slowly, however, his work would assert itself in the field of painting. Drawing from an extensive background of pop culture images and references, he would build a work that is both visually appealing and pertinent in the way it presents a particularly critical view of the world. He has been exhibiting regularly since the mid-1990s. ISOBEL ATACUS (UK/EU) is a visual artist whose work moves across sculpture, installation and text, exploring edge as the site of sensuous experience. Their practice touches on the material, physical, poetic and political dimensions of the borderline, to bring up questions of what can be said to constitute ‘work’ within contemporary art discourse and practice. This forms the basis of their PhD research project, based between Slade School of Fine Art, UCL and King’s College London. Isobel founded the project space the icing room in London, and curates a cycle at Zaratan. SUSANA LOPES BORGES Born in Caldas da Rainha, lives and works in Lisbon. Graduated in Sculpture at ESADCaldas da Rainha 2008, Master in Philosophy specialization in Aesthetics at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences in Lisbon (2011). At the moment her PhD in Installation at the Faculty of Fine Arts In Lisbon is on hold. She has been exhibiting regularly since 2008. Her practice uses different media (photography, video, sculpture, ready made, engines, among others) in the construction of installation works, often thought of in a site-specific perspective. GEMMA NORIS (1986, Brescia) is the founder and artistic director of Zaratan. She graduated in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brera, Milan (2010) and obtained a Masters in Multimedia Art at FBAUL (2014). Her work opposes the connection between art and permanence, and moves towards collaborative intervention practices. She is interested in self-managed practices of artistic creation and production. Since 2012, she collaborates with several independent and artist-managed projects in Europe. JOSÉ CHAVES (1982, Lisbon) lives and works in Lisbon. He has a degree in Advertising and Marketing at the Lisbon Social Communication School and a Master's degree in Multimedia Art at FBAUL. In 2014 he founded Zaratan with a collective of artists, and since then he has coordinated the association's activities. His work incorporates several artistic languages, such as music compositions, cinema, documentary and video art. This intersection allows you to create your own body of works, which explores audiovisual images and their post-multi-effects. He has participated in festivals, residencies and exhibitions around the world.
